    Where: Rostov-on-Don
    When: Reported on Dec 1 2011
    Who: 214 passengers
    Why: While en route, engine problems forced an unnamed Transaero Boeing crew to divert to Rostov-on-Don reportedly due to undisclosed engine problems. However, date, plane and preliminary cause have not been verified. It apparently had the same number aboard as Kolavia Flight 348 (214) which burned on the runway before being able to take off for Moscow.

    Fatality near Pensacola Fl

    Where: PENSACOLA, FL Ferguson Field near Hwy 98.
    When: 01/06/2009 16:45
    Who: pilot
    Why: The pilot was doing practice runs near Ferguson airport. During touch and go, the Pawnee crashed into a wooded area. The pilot was the only person on board and was fatally injured.

    US Airways Strikes Geese over Rochester

    What: US Airways A319-100 en route from Rochester to Charlotte
    Where: Rochester
    When: March 11, 2010
    Who: 124 passengers (126?)
    Why: According to interviews by the airport director, immediately after an uneventful takeoff, the jet flew through a flock of geese. Passengers heard an engine combust, and smelled something burning. The flight landed safely within thirty minutes, and apparently passengers clapped on landing.

    It has been three years since Rochester’s last reported bird strike.

    UK Participating in Sita Air Accident, Nepal

    What: Sita Air Dornier 228-202 en route from Kathmandu-Tribhuvan Airport to Lukla
    Where: 500 Meters from airport
    When: Sept 28, 2012
    Who: 19 fatalities
    Update: Because seven British subjects were killed aboard the Sita Air crash on September 28, the UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch will be joining the accident investigation.

    The British fatalities were named as:

    1. Raymond Eagle, 58, from Macclesfield, Cheshire
    2. Timothy Oakes, 57, from Winwick, near Warrington
    3. Stephen Holding, 60, from Stoke-on-Trent
    4. Vincent Kelly, 50, from Lostock, Bolton
    5. Darren Kelly (brother) 45 from Isle of Whithorn Southern Galloway
    6. Benjamin Ogden, 27, from London
    7. Christopher Davey, 51, from Northampton

    Nepalese authorities have a three month report deadline.

    AA Emergency Landing in Austin Texas

    What: American Airlines MD-80 Flight 311 en route from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport to Los Angeles
    Where: Austin-Bergstrom International
    When: Monday, March 9, 2009
    Who: 123 passengers, 5 crew
    Why: After take-off, one engine made a “boom.” The pilot powered down to idle, and returned to the airport so that the plane could be examined and repaired.

    Nicaragua: Antonov 2 Crash

    What: Fuerza Aérea Nicaragüense Antonov 2
    Where: Managua Nicaragua
    When: 15-OCT-2009
    Why: While on a test flight, the plane crashed during an emergency landing. Engine failure is presumed to be the cause.

    One civilian mechanic is said to have suffered “a minor stroke” during the sharp decline.

    Pilot Captain Angel del Sol Sequeira Cantillo, along with four crew members, co-pilot Captain Silvio Armando Sanabria Herrera and Maria Mendoza Cano Grisli NCO and civilian mechanics Toruño Ernesto Sergio Garcia and Miguel Angel Castro Pineda .
