    US Airways Flight Diverts to Greensville

    On January 30, 2013, a U.S. Airways Bombardier CRJ 200 was en route from Tallahassee, Fla. to Charlotte, NC with 19 passengers and three crew when a strong odor was smelled in the cabin.

    Pilots diverted to Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport where they made a safe landing.

    A bus was provided for passengers to complete the trip.

    Batavia Lands Flat in Pekanbaru

    What: Batavia Boeing 737-400 en route from Jakarta to Pekanbaru
    Where: Pekanbaru Airport
    When: Aug 15 2011
    Why: On landing at Pekanbaru, the plane blew out its tires.

    Hard landing? Fast landing? We do not know. We do know the plane had to be towed off the runway. Injuries were not reported.

    Boeing Hits Building

    A British Airways Boeing 747-436 was taxiing for takeoff from Johannesburg-OR Tambo Airport. The plane missed a turn, went on to taxiway M which was too narrow, and the wing hit a building. (I guess December 22nd was the day for planes all over the world hitting things.) The plane’s wing was damaged, but luckily no one aboard was, except the pilot was probably pretty red in the face. Oops.

    The wing did a pretty good job of cutting into a two story building. Four employees of Johannesburg-OR Tambo airport were slightly injured. The airport emergency team handled the plane’s fuel leak, and of course, an investigation is under way.

    Delta Cracked Windshield over KY

    What: Delta/Atlantic Southeast Airlines Canadair CRJ-700 en route from Flint, MI to Atlanta, GA
    Where: NE of Louisville KY
    When: Dec 7th 2009
    Who: 61 passengers and 4 crew
    Why: While en route from Flint, the crew found and reported a cracked windshield. The crew made an emergency landing in Louisville. Passengers debarked safely, and alternative transportation was provided.

    Blue Panorama Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Italy

    Blue Panorama Airlines flight BV-2221 made an emergency landing in Ancona, Italy, on July 17th.

    The Boeing 737-400 plane heading from Tirana, Albania, to Milan–Malpensa Airport, Italy, was diverted after it suffered loss of cabin pressure due to a cracked windshield.

    The plane landed safely. All one hundred and forty-three people aboard remained unharmed.

    American Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Philadelphia

    American Airlines flight AA-52 had to return and make an emergency landing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on October 11th.

    The Boeing 767-300 plane took off for Prague, Czech Republic, but had to turn back after the crew received indications of hydraulic issues.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
