    Where: Milan
    When: Nov 10th 2010
    Who: 108 passengers, 6 crew
    Why: On touchdown in Milan, the plane generated a brake fault message. The return flight was cancelled, and the plane was pulled from service briefly for repairs.

    Cathay Pacific Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Russia

    Cathay PacificCathay Pacific flight CX-250 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Novosibirsk, Russia, on November 23rd.

    The plane heading from London, United Kingdom, to Hong Kong, China, was diverted due to a smoke indication for the aft cargo hold.

    The plane landed safely. There were 214 passengers and 18 crew members aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.

    Martinair Plane Returns to Amsterdam after Bird Encounter

    Martinair flight MP-6741 had to return and make an emergency landing at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Amsterdam, Netherlands, on March 3rd.

    The MD-11 Freighter, heading towards Miami, Florida, had to dump fuel and return after ingesting a colony of seagulls.

    The plane landed safely.

    All people aboard remained unhurt.

    Engine Issues Forced Emergency Landing at Philadelphia International Airport

    US AirwaysA US Airways Express jet, operated by Republic Airlines, had to return and make an emergency landing at Philadelphia International Airport, Pennsylvania, on the morning of December 29.

    The Embraer 175 aircraft took off from Philadelphia for Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, New Hampshire, but had to turn back just minutes later, due to an engine problem. Some passengers reported that they heard a loud boom and saw fiery flashes shooting out of the plane.

    The plane landed safely and all 75 passengers and 4 crew members remained unharmed.

    The airline accommodated the passengers in another flight while the plane was taken for examination.

    United Airlines Flight Returns to Sydney Due to Unusual Odor

    new-united-logoUnited Airlines flight UA-870 had to return and make an emergency landing in Sydney, Australia, on April 17th.

    The Boeing 787-900 plane took off for San Francisco, California, but had to return shortly afterwards due to an unusual odor in the cabin.

    The plane landed safely. There were 238 passengers aboard at the time; all of them remained unharmed.

    Gear Up Landing in Oregon


    What: C320
    Where: SEASIDE, OR
    When: 02/02/2009 4 p.m.
    Who: Only the pilot Roger DeLong was aboard. No injuries reported.
    Why: The Cessna landed with the landing gears stuck in the gear up position. The pilot had already dropped off passenger Gary Turel prior to the landing. The plane slid approx. 700 feet on its belly and sustained some damage. According to the FAA spokesman “landing gear jams are not uncommon on the twin-engine Cessna 320.”
