    Aeroflot Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Russia

    Aeroflot flight SU-5436 had to return and make an emergency landing in Vladivostok, Russia, on February 22nd.

    The plane took off for Seoul, South Korea, but had to turn back after the crew received an engine oil indication.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Vienna-Bound El Al Flight Returns to Tel Aviv

    El Al flight LY-363 had to return and make an emergency landing in Tel Aviv, Israel, on April 10th.

    The Boeing 737-900 plane took off for Vienna, Austria, but had to turn back after smoke was noticed in a galley.

    The plane landed safely. All one hundred and thirty people aboard remained unharmed.

    MD-90 Engine Failure over Madinah, Saudi Arabia

    What: Saudi Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-90-30 en route from Damascus to Madinah, Saudi Arabia
    Where: emergency landing at Prince Muhammad International Airport in Madinah
    When: Thursday May 28th 2009-evening
    Who: 121 passengers
    Why: On approach, the plane experienced a failure in one of its engines. The pilot had to burn off fuel, telling the control tower he was unable to land. After a number of attempts, the MD-90 landed safely.

    If an MD-80 flies from Damascus to Madinah carrying 121 passengers with all its engines, loses one and has to circle for thirty minutes after it arrives at its destination, how much fuel was in the plane to begin with?

    Who: 146 aboard
    Why: On landing, a tire blew out.

    North Dakota: TaylorCraft Makes Emergency Highway Landing

    What: Private Taylor Craft
    Where: Windsor Exit westbound off ramp i-94 west of Jamestown
    When: 10:30 am
    Who: pilot Patrick Williams of Salem, Oregon
    Why: The pilot experienced low visibility and made an emergency landing on the interstate in the westbound lane. The pilot safely moved the plane to the off ramp. (Update pending.)
