    Air Canada Express Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Pennsylvania

    Air CanadaAir Canada Express flight 7316 made an emergency landing at the Johnstown Cambria County Airport in Pennsylvania, on February 27.

    The plane, en-route from Raleigh to Toronto, was diverted after a passenger reported smoke above his seat.

    The plane landed uneventfully and was taken for inspection. All the passengers and crew members remained safe.

    An airline spokesperson said that the plane experienced a minor electrical problem.

    ANA Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Japan

    ANA

    All Nippon Airways flight ANA 90 had to make an emergency landing at Naha airport on the island of Okinawa in Japan, on June 5.

    The Boeing 767 aircraft was en-route from Ishigaki Island to Haneda airport, Tokyo, when the pilot reported haze in the cockpit and requested an emergency landing.

    The plane landed uneventfully. None of the 101 passengers and 8 crew members was injured.

    The incident is being investigated.

    Airlink Crash in Durban

    What: SA Airlink JS41 en route from from Durban to Pietermaritzburg
    Where: Durban
    When: Sep 24th 2009
    Who: 4 people, (3 crewmembers) and a woman working on the ground at the school perimeter, have been airlifted to local hospitals. The captain is critical, the other 3 with serious injuries.
    Why: The plane had smoke coming from its engines, lost height after takeoff.

    The crew called Mayday and reported engine loss and smoke. They attempted an emergency landing in the field in front of a school and impacted the fence surrounding the school.

    Preliminary examination apparently shows the hand engine was operating under full power and the left engine failed.

    The fact that anyone at all survived this indicates that the emergency landing was a success.

    However, maintenance is suspect.

    Crew Injured in Turbulent Approach to Oakland

    What: Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-700 en route from Albuquerque,NM to Oakland,CA
    Where: Oakland
    When: Dec 1st 2011
    Who: 95 passengers and 5 crew
    Why: On approach to Oakland, the plane flew through ten seconds of turbulence that injured the cabin crew.

    The pilots made a safe landing half an hour later, after which two members of the crew were hospitalized.

    Wind River Mountain Crash Kills Day Family

    What: Condor Aero 998 Commander AC 11 en route from Jasper to Jackson.
    Where: 15 to 20 miles southwest of Lander, near Christina Lake, at an elevation of about 11,700 feet in Wyoming Wind River Mountains
    When: Dec. 22 2010
    Who: pilot Ralph Day, 56; his wife Doris Day, 52; and Connor Day, 12
    Why: The Days operated the Day Forestry Appraisal and Management company, and left Jasper planning to visit Yellowstone and then Alaska for the Iditarod.

    Day’s plane struck the top of a steep ridge three feet deep in snow. The plane was not reported missing, and was not located until a passing plane heard the beacon in Shoshone National Forest, Wyoming,

    A helicopter retrieved the bodies on Saturday.

    SmartWings Flight Makes Emergency Landing After Loss of Cabin Pressure

    SmartWings flight 6H-734 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Kosice, Slovakia, on May 29th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane heading from Warsaw, Poland, to Tel Aviv, Israel, was diverted after it lost cabin pressure.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
