A small amphibious plane crashed into the Banks Lake near Steamboat Rock State Park in Grant County, Washington, on the evening of May 24.
The pilot, Kenneth A. Berger, 60, of Monroe, died shortly after having been rescued from the water. He was the only one aboard the plane.
Eye witnesses described that the plane sank in the water in a nose-first position.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office said nearby boaters rescued the pilot and took him to the hospital in an ambulance waiting outside of the lake.
The Federal Aviation Administration is further investigating the crash.
