    Cessna Crash in Arizona


    A Cessna 340A en route from Laughlin-Bullhead International Airport to Ernest A. Love Field Airport when it clipped trees and a radio tower during a low pass at the Gunsite Training Academy. There are four fatalities.

    Passengers were going to Gunsite Firearms Training Academy when the plane struck a radio tower and crashed. Witnesses heard the plane whining before it crashed.

    Respondents include Chino Valley Fire and Yavapai County Sheriff’s department.

    The names of the victims have not been released. The FAA is investigating.

    Sabine Helicopter Crash update


    What: Helicopter owned by leasing company Rotorcraft en route to an unmanned oil rig platform 18-miles off-shore
    Where: Gulf of Mexico, about two miles below Sabine Pass at the border of Texas and Louisiana
    When: Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008
    Who: 5 on board. The pilot of the helicopter was identified as Joe Laugelle
    Why: Cause is under investigation; however there was a weather advisory in effect at the time of the crash
    One of the victims of the crash –Jacob Matt–has washed ashore near the McFaddin Wildlife Refuge. One victim John Larry Conn, was buried Sunday. James Cody Smalts who had just moved in with his fiance, Monica Lopez was buried Monday. One victim –Nick Hebert from Basile, Louisiana–hasn’t been recovered.

    At the time of the crash, air temp was 36 degrees; water temp 62 degrees. Wind was from the west at 23 knots, and there was a weather advisory. The body of John Laguelle is one of those recovered. Two other crew members whose bodies were recovered were wearing personal floatation devices. A search is ongoing for two others. All four passengers were crew members for a contract customer of Rotorcraft. The pilot also worked part-time as a helicopter pilot for a television station in Boston.

    Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing at Danbury Municipal Airport

    A small plane made an emergency landing at Danbury Municipal Airport in Connecticut, on April 25.

    Authorities said the pilot requested an emergency landing due to possible electrical fault in the aircraft.

    The plane landed uneventfully and no injuries were reported.

    The incident is being investigated.

    Helicopter Crashes While Filming Robbery


    What: Record TV News helicopter
    Where: Sao Paulo’s jockey club
    When: February 10
    Who: Pilot and cameraman
    Why: News network’s Astar helicopter developed rear engine failure and careened to the grass of Sao Paulo’s jockey club. The pilot managed to avoid rush hour traffic on Marginal Pinheiros, and no one on the ground was injured. The cameraman Alexandre Borracha was conscious when on the way to the hospital, surviving with serious injury. The pilot Rafael Delgado Sobrinho was found slumped over the controls died on the scene. The accident was filmed by another news crew.

    Pilot of the helicopter filming the crash incident was Globo pilot Dato de Oliveira, who followed and landed, and rushed to assist; he turned off the fuel pump and battery to avoid an explosion.

    Both crews were in the area filming a bank robbery.

    Colibri Crashes Stormy Mountainside in San Jose de Ocoa

    What: Dominican Consul Eurocopter EC120 Colibri en route from Santo Domingo to San Jose de Ocoa
    Where: San Jose de Ocoa, Dominican Republic
    When: 15-OCT-2009 at 14:55
    Who: 3 aboard, all fatalities
    Why: The Colibri light helicopter took off for Ocoa from the Hotel Santo Domingo‘s heliport at 2:35 p.m. but crashed into a mountain in the south of the country in heavy rain, killing all occupants (the pilot and two passengers: first lieutenant Wilker Diaz, Manuel Checo, Yendi Vásquez)

    The last communication with the pilot was at 2:55 p.m. when he told ATC he had Ocoa in sight.
    The Dominican consul in Haiti, Carlos Castillo—whose helicopter it is—was not aboard.

    Passenger Plane Crashes in Cuba; Over 100 Dead

    A Boeing 737-200 plane, performing flight CU-972 on behalf of Cubana de Aviacion, crashed in Havana, Cuba, on May 18th.

    The incident happened shortly after the plane took off from Jose Marti International Airport in Havana.

    There were one hundred and five passengers and six crew members aboard at the time. Authorities said only three passengers survived and were shifted to hospitals in critical condition.

    The flight was heading to Holguin, Cuba.
