Where: Barnaby Sands on the Lancashire coast near Fleetwood.
When: 23 September 2009
Who: Pilot and student: Pilot Steven Lewis, 38, from Rainhill, Merseyside, died along with Philip Gray, 45, of Mawdesley, Lancashire.
Why: The helicopter crashed on a training flight. The pilot issued a mayday based on engine troubles, and steered away from populated areas, hoping to find a softer landing.

Blue Air flight 0B134 had to return and make an emergency landing at Liverpool John Lennon Airport in England, on August 17.The Boeing 737, that took off for Bucharest, Romania, had to return after the pilot reported a suspected bird-hit just 20 minutes into the flight.
The plane landed safely and burning off excess fuel. Everyone aboard remained unhurt.
After inspection, the plane was cleared to take off again.

United Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Honolulu
United Airlines flight UA-372 had to return and make an emergency landing in Honolulu, Hawaii, on March 19th.The Boeing 777-200 plane took off for San Francisco, California, but had to turn back due to an engine issue.
The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
Jet2 Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Belfast
Jet2.com flight LS-362 had to make an emergency landing at Belfast International Airport in Northern Ireland, United Kingdom, on March 24th.The plane was flying from Palma de Mallorca Airport, Spain, when the crew received a fire indication and declared emergency.
The plane landed safely. No injuries were reported.
No evidence of fire or smoke was found upon inspection.

Why: A small African Air Service owned Let 410 cargo plane, registration 9Q-CIF, was damaged beyond repair in an accident at Mont Biega, D.R. Congo. Both crew members (Ukranian and Congolese) pilot and copilot were killed. Helicopter Crashes in Islamorada FL

Where: Robbie’s Marina , Indian Key State Park, Islamorada Florida

Why: The pilot made an emergency landing on an island to inspect his plane. When he checked the tail rotor, the helicopter lifted off without him, at which point he tried to get back in but fell. The helicopter continued up about 70 feet before it crashed.The pilot received doctor’s care for his broken arm, after being rescued by a boat from a local marina.
I’ve heard of people getting out of their car while it was running…But…a helicopter?
