Virgin Australia flight VA-938 made an emergency landing in Newcastle, Australia, on February 1st.
The Boeing 737-800 plane heading from Brisbane to Sydney, Australia, was diverted due to a cargo smoke indication.
The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
U.S. Airways Express flight 3846 had to return and make an emergency landing at Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on January 20.
According to a statement issued by the American Airlines, “US Airways Express flight 3846 from Milwaukee to Charlotte returned to Mitchell airport due to an indication of possible smoke in the lavatory. The flight is operated by AirWisconsin.”
The plane landed uneventfully at 2:44 p.m. and was taken for inspection.
There were no passengers aboard at the time.
United Airlines flight UA-642 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Las Vegas, Nevada, on July 10th.
The Boeing 757-200 plane heading from Los Angeles, California, to Newark, New Jersey, was diverted due to an engine problem.
The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

What: Hungarian Malev Airlines Q400 Bombardier en route from Varna to Budapest
Where: Bulgarian coastal town of Varna
When: 5:25 am on May 12
Who: 30 passengers
Why: The plane experienced an undisclosed technical problem and turned back almost as soon as it was in the air. The plane that turned back is the same as the Colgan Air plane that crashed in Buffalo NY. This plane, however, was not flying with ice on its wings.

What: Spirit Airlines Airbus A321-200 en route from Fort Lauderdale to New York

Why: On departure, the Spirit Airlines Airbus struck a bird reportedly the size of a turkey just below the windshield. 36 minutes after departure, and after dumping fuel,
the flight returned to Ft. Lauderdale for an inspection. No one was injured. No indication was made of another bird striking the aircraft. Although emergency vehicles were on standby, plane operations appeared to be normal. Passengers were provided an alternative flight within 4 hours.
Croatia Airlines flight OU-631 made an emergency landing in Zadar. Croatia, on February 5th.
The plane was flying from Pula, Croatia, when a bird struck it, prompting the crew to declare an emergency.
The plane landed uneventfully. There were 23 passengers aboard at the time; all of them remained unhurt.
Korean Air flight KE-753 made an emergency landing in Busan, South Korea, on December 26th.
The plane took off for Nagoya, Japan, but had to turn back due to an engine failure.
The plane landed back safely. All sixty-four people aboard remained unharmed.
