Five hours after landing for repairs, the flight resumed.

What: Continental Airlines Boeing 737 en route from San Antonio to Houston Where: San Antonio When: Apr 28, 2011 Who: 151 aboard Why: The plane had taken off and developed a “strong chemical odor.” The pilots returned to San Antonio International Airport and made a safe landing; however they did not know the cause of the odor and for caution’s sake, took the plane to the “ramp” area. Several passengers developed respiratory distress.
The crew boarding wore hazmat suits. The source of the chemical odor was not identified.

What: SEAir South East Asian LET L-410 ferry flight from Manila to Caticlan Where: Godofredo P. Ramos Airport Caticlan When: Mar 15th 2010 6:30 a.m. Who: 3 crew composed of pilot Capt. James Bihasa, his co-pilot and a mechanic. Why: On landing, the plane had a flat, the fifth SEAir aircraft to have a flat at that airport. (There is only the one runway.) There were no injuries, but the plane blocked the runway until the left main tire was replaced. Because there was no spare, and lacking the equipment to relocate the plane, the airport closed for six hours during which time, flights diverted to Kalibo airport 70 kilometers away.
As a consequence, Philippines Civil Aviation Authority Director General Alfonso Cusi has ordered a review of the airport’s “Emergency and Rescue Plan.”

What: Jetblue Airbus A320-200 en route from San Juan Puerto Rico to Orlando, FL Where: Orlando When: Dec 8th 2009 Who: not available Why: On approach to land, the Jetblue Airbus struck a bird. The flight landed safely, although the return flight to San Juan was delayed.

What: Air Canada Boeing 777-333ER Where: Toronto Canada When: May 28 2012 Who: 318 passengers, 16 crew Why: After a louder than normal take-off, fifteen minutes into the flight, pilots of the Air Canada Boeing en route from Toronto to Japan shut off an engine. Witnesses reported smoke and fire coming from the right engine.
The flight had to return to Toronto following engine problems. Falling bits of engine debris “hot bits of blackened metal” fell from the sky and caused some damage to parked vehicles near Derry and Kennedy Rds in Mississauga. The entire circuit of the flight took about an hour and a half.
There were no injuries on the flight, but emergency services were on standby on landing, in expectation of trauma.
