    United Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing at JFK Airport

    United Airlines flight UA-4697 made an emergency landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, on August 7th.

    The plane heading from Washington Dulles International Airport, Virginia, to Providence, Rhode Island, was diverted due to smoke in the cabin.

    The plane landed safely. There were fifty-three people aboard at the time; three of them were examined by emergency teams at the airport.

    Washington State: De Havilland Dash 8-400 Runway Overrun

    What: Horizon Air de Havilland Dash 8-400 (Alaska Airlines) en route from Seattle Bellingham
    Where: Bellingham
    When: Aug 16th 2009 11:50PM PDT (arrival)
    Who: 76 passengers and 4 crew
    Why: There were no reported problems during the 32 minute flight; however, while landing at Bellingham, the plane overran the runway. No injuries were reported and the plane was towed to the terminal after a delay of 6-8 hours.

    Airbus Emergency Landing in Norway


    What: SAS airlines Airbus 330 en route from Stockholm, Sweden, to Chicago
    Where: Vaernes Airport in central Norway
    When: Thursday November 27, 2008
    Who: 180 passengers 13 crew members
    Why: One of the planes engines was shut down forcing a “security landing”

    China Southern Airlines Emergency Landing

    What: China Southern Airlines Airbus A319-100 en route from Daqing to Guangzhou
    Where: Hangzhou
    When: Jul 25, 2012 4:50 p.m.
    Who: 105 passengers
    Why: The flight, scheduled from Daqing to Hangzhou to Guangzhou was climbing out of Hangzhou when smoke was reported.

    Pilots returned to Hangzhou and made a safe landing.

    China Southern Airlines’ official page said “an investigation later found the smoke was in fact a mist produced by faulty airconditioning system” according to CRIEnglish. Another jet was provided for passengers to complete their journey.

    Romanian Flight: Emergency landing in Madrid

    What: Tarom Romanian Air Transport Airbus A310-300 en route from Bucharest Otopeni (Romania) to Tenerife Sur Reina,CI (Spain)
    Where: Madrid
    When: Jun 18th 200p
    Who: 201 passengers and 10 crew members
    Why: En route the windshield cracked, and the flight was diverted safely to Madrid. No injuries were reported though the cockpit depressurized.

    US-Bangla Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing due to Nose Gear Issue

    US-Bangla Airlines flight BS-141 made an emergency landing at Chittagong airport, Bangladesh, on September 26th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane heading from Dhaka to Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, was diverted after the crew failed to extend the nose gear.

    The plane landed without nose gear and was subsequently evacuated.

    Everyone aboard remained unharmed.
