    United Airlines Flight Diverts to Shannon Airport due to Medical Emergency

    United Airlines flight UA-946 had to divert for an emergency landing at Shannon Airport, Ireland, on January 20th.

    The plane flying from Washington Dulles International Airport, Virginia, to Amsterdam, Netherlands, was diverted after the captain became unconscious.

    The plane, carrying 82 passengers and 12 crew members, landed safely.

    Brussels Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Belgium

    BrusselsBrussels Airlines flight SN-3667 made an emergency landing in Brussels, Belgium, on May 9th.

    The plane, heading from Brussels, Belgium, to Toulouse, France, had to turn back after the crew reported a hydraulic leak.

    The plane landed safely. No injuries were reported.

    American Eagle Jet in Emergency Landing at Abilene

    American eagleAn American Eagle jet, en-route from Midland to Dallas-Fort Worth, had to make an unscheduled in Abilene, Texas, on October 14.

    According to airline spokesperson Matt Miller, the pilots declared emergency after a warning light indicated a braking system malfunction.

    The Bombardier CRJ700 aircraft, landed uneventfully at Abilene Regional Airport and none of the 52 passengers and 4 crew members was hurt.

    The aircraft was taken for examination.

    Incapacitated Pilot Circles Gulf

    What: Lee H Aviation Inc. Cessna 421C en route from Slidell, La., to Sarasota, Fla.
    Where: Gulf of Mexico
    When: April 19 2012
    Who: pilot
    Why: The plane took off normally from Slidell at 6:43 a.m., but en route lost contact with ATC and began flying in circles over the Gulf of Mexico.

    Around 8:45 a.m, two F-15s that flew in to check on the plane found it flying between 25,000 and 35,000 feet with the windshield iced over. The pilot remained unresponsive. The plane landed “softly” intact and right side up in the water around 12:10 p.m., approximately 120 miles west of Tampa. The pilot was unconscious or incapacitated.

    The 87-foot cutter Coho was scheduled to respond as well as a HC-144 plane from Mobile, Alabama and a MH-60 helicopter in Clearwater.

    The pilot may have lost consciousness due to hypoxia, or a lack of oxygen.

    Air Niugini Flight Returns to Papua New Guinea due to Smoke in Cockpit

    Air Niugini flight PX-275 had to return for an emergency landing in Kavieng, Papua New Guinea, on May 23rd.

    The plane took off for Rabaul, Papua New Guinea, but had to return shortly afterwards due to smoke in the cockpit.

    At least one tire deflated as the plane landed in Kavieng. No injuries were reported.

    Condor Plane Diverts to Italy due to Hydraulic Failure

    condor airlinesCondor flight DE-1581 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Brindisi – Salento Airport, Brindisi, Italy, on July 7th.

    The Airbus A320-200, en-route form Kerkyra, Greece to Frankfurt, Germany, was mid-air when the crew reported hydraulic failure, prompting the plane to divert.

    The plane landed successfully.

    All 181 people onboard remained unharmed.
