    Russian Chopper Crew Lost in Peacekeeping Mission

    UN Russian Mi-8 helicopter crashed at an altitude of 2,700 meters in the Democratic Republic of Congo killing four.

    The UTair helicopter was returning to Bukavu when it crashed 35 miles from its destination.

    The four crew members were Russian. The crew was en route between Shabunda and Bukavu when it hit bad weather.

    The crash occurred in mountainous terrain that is inaccessible, but it has been located. Forty rescuers are en route on foot. The helicopter was part of peacemaking mission MONUSCO.

    Black Box Found

    What: NARZ Mi-8T helicopter RA-22376 en route from Kyshtovka
    Where: n the vicinity of the Krapivin oil field of OAO Tomskneft VNK in the Kargasoksky district
    When: November 25, 2010 12:12
    Who: Eight killed, three injured
    Why: The helicopter carrying shift workers and 1.6 tons of cargo had been hovering over the landing site when an uncontrolled rotation of the aircraft began. The Mi-8 drifted for about 50 meters, tipped over to its side, collapsed and caught fire. A criminal case has been initiated, a violation of traffic safety and air transport operation regulations, entail the death of two or more persons by negligence.

    The black box, previously reported as being missing, has been found.

    RAF Chinook Emergency Landing in AZ

    What: RAF Boeing Chinook HC2 (CH-47D) en route from Naval Air Facility El Centro Imperial Valley, California
    Where: Arizona
    When: April 7 2012 7.30pm BST
    Who: 7 injured
    Why: A UK Chinook made an emergency landing “mishap” in Arizona, about fifteen miles from Yuma.

    Seven aboard the helicopter were examined at El Centro Regional Medical Center but were reported as both injured and uninjured. The accident occurred during a training mission. How much damage the helicopter sustained is unknown.

    Yemen Airbus Crash


    The government sent a rescue crew 8 hours after the crash. The rescue plane was found 17 kilometers from land. A child–either a 5 year old boy or a 15 year old girl–was apparently found alive. Two french ships and a french airplane were already engaged in searching before Yemen sent a ship and military plane.

    Cuban Flight Crashes; All aboard are Lost

    What: Aerocaribbean ATR-72-500 en route from Santiago to Havana
    Where: Guasimal, Sancti Spiritus Cuba
    When: Nov 4 2010
    Who: with 61 passengers and 7 crew
    Why: The last flight to leave Santiago before the airport closed due to tropical storm Tomas disappeared from radio contact at 5:42 pm while over Guasimal not far from the Zaza Reservoir. The crew made an emergency call at 5:42. 40 cubans were aboard and 28 non-cubans (9 Argentinian, 7 Mexican, 3 Dutch, 1 French, 2 German, 2 Austrian, 1 Italian, 1 Spanish, 1 Venezuelan, and 1 Japanese).

    A hospital worker said “The plane made several abrupt movements before crashing to the ground.” Rescuers hiked in through thick vegetation (using bulldozers to get through the vegetation to find the plane shattered and in flames and no survivors.

    Tropical storm Tomas developed into a hurricane. Cuba declared a state of alert.

    The ongoing investigation has not ruled that weather is the definitive factor because the storm had not reached Cuba at the time of the crash.

    Cuban state airline Cubana de Aviacion owns Aerocaribbean. The flight normally flies twice a week from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to Santiago de Cuba to Havana

    Float Plane Down with Three Aboard in Georgian Bay


    On July 4, a North-Way Chrysler Motors Ltd. Cessna 182 Skylane with three aboard was near Griffith Island in Georgian bay and flipped as the pilot was trying to land at an island airstrip but came to rest 220 meters short of the runway. All three aboard succumbed to fatal injuries.

    The float plane crash occurred off the south end of the Griffith Island. The fatalities were family members 45, 52 and 72.

    A Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre out of Trenton, On circled the downed plane. Three ambulances were on standby at Big Bay dock.

    When assistance arrived, the plane was upside down and partially submerged. The Grey County OPP, Bruce Peninsula OPP and Cape Croker police marine units attended, along with Grey and Bruce County paramedics, Inter Township firefighters, Owen Sound firefighters and the Ministry of Natural Resources were dispatched to the scene. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada’s air division arrived Friday.
