Aer Lingus flight EI-845 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom, on October 12th.
The Airbus A320-200 plane heading from Amsterdam, Netherlands, to Cork, Ireland, was diverted after the crew noticed fumes in the cockpit.
The plane landed safely. All one hundred and sixty-nine people aboard remained unharmed.

Why: After takeoff from Bangkok, the engine vibration and temperature increased beyond the norm in one engine and the engine is reported to have salled. That (Rolls Royce) engine was shut down, and the pilots returned to Bangkik to make a safe landing with the remaining three engines. It has not yet been announced if the problem is due to the internal pipe irregularities which were indicated in an airworthiness directive just released, but with problems that go back several years.
By the look of cursory evidence, it appears this could be the same manufacturing defect in an oil pipe, which led to an internal oil leak in the Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engine that failed in a Qantas A380 in 2010 causing a midair explosion, but investigators will have to reveal the details.
The latest entity to sue Air France (over flight 447) is Motorola, who is blaming Air France (formerly Societe Air France) in a “multi district litigation” for the June 1 2009 crash.
The blame game goes like this: Motorola is being sued for designing flight control computer microprocessors which (allegedly) prevented software from functioning. And Motorola is blaming the accident on Air France.
Although U.S. District Judge Charles R. Breyer dismissed the litigation in October on forum non conveniens grounds, plaintiffs want U.S. jurisdiction. Plaintiffs contend that French courts cannot exercise jurisdiction and the cases would be thwarted for years
Families are asking the manufacturers (Motorola Honeywell International, Intel Corp and General Electric ) be tried in the US because “unilateral submission to jurisdiction in France is not effective to create jurisdiction under European Council Regulation 44/2001” because none of the parties live in France or the European Union. The latest black box analysis confirms that invalid (Thales pitot tube) readings were outputted right before the plane crashed.

Where: Amsterdam
When: Apr 21st 2012
Why: While en route, a leak in the right engine was detected. Pilots shut down the affected engine and returned to Amsterdam where they made a safe landing.
KLM Cityhopper received delivery of the plane on April 1 2010. It has CF34-10E6 engines. (GE)

What: Spirit Airlines Airbus A319-100 en route from Chicago to Ft Lauderdale
Where: Daytona Beach
When: July 1 2009
Who: 143 on board
Why: When a burning smell filled the cockpit, the plane diverted to Daytona Beach. Passengers debarked normally; some individuals who experienced shortness of breath were taken to Halifax Medical Center.
Passengers stated that the smoke was not visible but it made their eyes water, and smelled like rotten eggs.
