What: SATA International Airbus A310-300 en route from Lisbon Portugal to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport

Why: After takeoff, an oil leak was detected in the Airbus and it returned to the airport. Passengers debarked and eventually took an alternative airbus. One passenger was ill.

What: Saudi Arabian Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-90 en route from Dammam (Saudi Arabia) to Cairo
Where: Tabuk
When: Dec 18th 2009
Who: 119 passengers
Why: Less than an hour and a half into the flight, the right engine developed an oil problem. The crew shut down the engine. The flight diverted to Tabuk and made a safe landing. A replacement flight was provided.
Eurowings flight EW-1100 had to return and make an emergency landing in Dusseldorf, Germany, on July 26th.
The plane took off for John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, but had to turn back due to an engine issue.
The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
American Airlines flight AA-973 made an emergency landing in Bermuda, on February 4th.
The Boeing 777-200 plane heading from John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was diverted due to a cargo smoke indication.
The plane landed uneventfully. All two hundred and one people aboard remained safe.

What: Russian Emergency Chopper Mil Mi-8MTV-1 #RF-31129
Where: Altan, Trans-Baikal area Russia
When: 09-OCT-2011
Who: 7 aboard
Why: The missing chopper was located and all aboard are alive. 15 units of equipment and 115 rescuers were engaged in the search. When the flight failed to check in at 12:45, it was declared missing.
Three crew members and 4 Avialesookhrana representitives were all in good condition, found in the Trans-Baikal region of Kyrinskom. An emergency chopper picked up the 7 and flew them to the First Municipal Hospital in Chita.
What: Cessna Citation business jet en route from Palm Springs International Airport to Winnipeg, Manitoba
Where: Palm Springs International Airport
When: 10:55 a.m Tuesday
Who: six people aboard
Why: When smoke was detected in the cabin, the pilot then burned off fuel before landing back in Palm Springs. The cause of the smoke is under investigation. No injuries.
What: single engine Beechcraft Musketeer on student flight
Where: East Palo Alto’s Ravenswood Open Space Preserve
When: 08/23/2011, 9:30 am
Who: instructor and student pilot
Why: While practicing touch and go maneuvers at Palo Alto Airport, the plane’s engine failed.
When the engine failed, the plane went down in the Ravenswood Open Space Preserve. A plane crashed there in Feb of 2010, which shook the neighborhood, but many locals were unaware of when this incident happened. This was an emergency landing, although the plane went off course after glancing against a tree.
Both Instructor Jassen Todorov and student pilot David Shoemaker survived.
