A small plane crashed into the Long Island Sound near Shoreham, Suffolk County, New York, on December 11th.
Authorities said the pilot reported engine issues before the Beech BE36 plane went down.
There were two people aboard at the time, including the pilot Inderpal Chhabra, 48, and passenger David Tobachnik, 59. Both were shifted to Stony Brook University Hospital.

Why: The American Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-80 en route from Raleigh to Chicago developed an oil leak in one engine after take-off.
Pilots made a loop over central North Carolina and returned to Raleigh, aborted an attempted landing, and then made a successful emergency landing. Emergency services, crash-fire-rescue trucks and firefighters were on standby.
American Airlines provided a replacement flight for passengers. No injuries were reported.

A vintage Spitfire plane made a crash-landing in a field in Woodchurch, Kent, England, on the morning of September 7.
The plane crashed when the 68-year-old pilot, identified as Rob Davies MBE, was trying to make an emergency landing due to engine failure.
The plane sustained significant damage.
The pilot remained safe and walked away after the crash.
On Wednesday April 9, 2014, an Adventist Aviation Indonesia Quest Kodiak 100 took off from Doyo Baru Airstrip to Ninia Airstrip, Yahukimo, Papua, Indonesia, but on takeoff in overcast weather, the plane flew up ten meters, dropped and the wing tip struck a bridge. Two of the seven aboard died in the crash, which broke the plane into several large pieces.
The two fatalities were the American pilots, Robert Frederic (63), and Denis Kobak (26). The five others including Yames Pahabol (32), Menas Balingga Ninia (29), Dariut Sugun Ninia(26), Ali Kobak (40) and Ninia-Nike Kobak (28) who were hospitalized at Yowari Hospital and Jayapura Regency Hospital.
The scene of the crash was not secured; and locals were picking up degree and scattered foodstuffs from the plane.
The Quest Kodiak 100 is a single engine turboprop. The accident at this point is presumed to be due to the plane being over capacity.

What: Delta Airlines Boeing 757-200 en route from Atlanta,GA to Seattle,WA

Why: The flight was well underway when passengers and crew smelled smoke in the cabin.
Pilots diverted to Kansas City Missouri, where they made a safe landing.
A KING 5 News employee was a passenger aboard the flight and posted on twitter that everyone was ok.
The problem was repaired, and the plane was re-boarded, continuing on to its destination.
South African Airways flight SA-204 had to return and make an emergency landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, on January 4th.
The Airbus A340-600 plane took off for Johannesburg, South Africa, but had to turn back due to an issue with flap retraction.
The plane landed uneventfully. Everyone aboard remained safe.
Colgan’s Dec. 7 report to the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board said last February’s crash was probably caused by pilots’ “loss of situational awareness,” failure to follow the training and procedures, but pointed out contributing factors:
Although Bombardier is withholding comment until the NTSB completes its investigation, a spokesman pointed out that the existing avionics are reliable and certified; and there are currently no requirements for systems to report abnormally low air speed.

What: Continental Airlines Flight 3407, Bombardier Q400 turboprop operated by regional carrier Colgan Air en route from Newark, New Jersey to Buffalo Niagara International Airport
Where: Clarence Center, New York.
When: Thursday Feb 12 struck a house at 10: 10 pm. Two homes were affected.
Who: 44 passengers and four crew members, 1 off-duty pilot, 1 person on the ground, all fatalities. The passenger manifest has not officially been released.
Why: The New Jersey-to-Buffalo flight was cleared to land on a runway pointing to the southwest. But the plane crashed with its nose pointed to the northeast. Seconds after two automatic warnings to the pilots that the plane was not moving fast enough to stay aloft, the twin turboprop aircraft went through a “severe pitch and roll” after positioning its flaps for a landing. It did not dive into the house, as initially thought, but landed flat on the house. Icing is emerging as the possible cause for why flight 3047 fell from the sky. The flight data recorder has been collected and is currently being examined.
