    Error Cancels UTAir Flight

    What: UTAir Boeing 757-200 en route from Krasnodar to Hurghada
    Where: Krasnodar
    When: Mar 6th 2012
    Who: 235 aboard
    Why: The pilots aboard the UTAir Boeing 757-200 were about to take off when they received an error message and aborted the takeoff.

    The flight was apparently cancelled.

    TUIfly Pilots Lightheaded on Fumes

    What: TUIFly Boeing 737-800 en route from Alicante to Nuremberg
    Where: Alicante
    When: Mar 15th 2011
    Who: 144 passengers
    Why: After takeoff, the pilots and crew of the flight felt dizzy and impaired. Passengers also reported feeling dizzy after the ground power unit started the engines. The pilot reported the emergency and returned to Alicante and made a safe landing.

    We don’t see a statement from the ministerio de fomento regarding this incident.

    Air China Security Diversion

    What: Air China Boeing en route from Beijing to NY
    Where: Beijing
    When: August 29, 2012
    Why: Passengers aboard an Air China Flight were flown back to Beijing and told there was a “map display error or due to turbulence.” On landing, the captain told passengers there had been a threatening message. Passengers disembarked through security and were provided an alternative flight.

    Air China posted the following message:

    Due to threatening information received about flight CA 981, to ensure the safety of passengers, this flight has returned to Beijing Capital International Airport.

    S7 Airlines Flight Rejects Takeoff due to Smoke in Cabin

    S7 Airlines flight S7-173 had to reject takeoff from Moscow Domodedovo Airport, Russia, on March 27th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane was accelerating to takeoff for Novosibirsk, Russia, when the crew rejected takeoff due to smoke in the cabin.

    The passengers disembarked via emergency slides. No injuries were reported.

    Southwest Airlines Boeing Lands Safely on One Engine

    What: Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 [see example above] en route from the McCarran International Airport en route to Long Island, New York.
    Where: McCarran International Airport Las Vegas
    When: Thursday afternoon shortly after taking off–at 3:28 p.m.
    Who: 118 passengers
    Why: The crew of the Southwest Airlines Boeing shut down one engine when it caught on fire; and used the remaining working engine to make the emergency landing safely.

    Delta Airlines Plane Returns to Germany due to Hydraulic Failure

    Delta Airlines flight DL-222 had to return and make an emergency landing at Berlin Tegel Airport, Berlin, Germany, on July 5th.

    The Boeing 767-300 flying to New York had to return due to problems with its hydraulic system.

    The plane landed safely.

    No one was injured.
