    Turkish Airlines Plane Makes Priority Landing in Istanbul

    Turkish airlinesTurkish Airlines flight TK2659 made a priority landing at Istanbul Atatürk Airport in Istanbul, Turkey, on November 14.

    The Boeing 737-800 was flying from Sivas, Turkey, when an asthma patient passenger fell ill mid-air. The pilot then contacted the air traffic control, saying “Our asthma patient passenger has low blood pressure. We have doctor in the cabin. Doctor is frequently checking the blood pressure. If it possible we would like to land on as soon as possible sir.”

    The plane landed uneventfully. It is believed that the patient’s condition had become better during landing.

    After Pressure Loss, Mayday, Diversion to Frankfurt

    What: Ryanair Boeing 737-800 en route from Milan, Italy to East Midlands
    Where: Frankfurt
    When: Apr 4th 2012
    Who: 134 passengers
    Why: Fifteen minutes after takeoff, while over Lugano Switzerland, the cabin lost pressure, deploying oxygen masks. Pilots made a Mayday announcement heard by passengers on the public address system, and descended to 9000 feet. Passengers were alarmed as they watched the alps approach at a rapid rate. In five minutes, they descended four miles. They diverted to Frankfurt Germany where they made a safe landing at at 12:00 local time.

    A replacement jet was provided.

    Three passengers were injured and hospitalized with ear problems. A news report said there were ten passengers with minor injuries. Some passengers told reporters they were panicking, but no one was screaming.

    Air New Zealand Bird Strike

    Who: 115 passengers
    Why: 20 minutes after takeoff, the plane had a bird strike; a bird was ingested into an engine. The plane returned to make a safe landing

    Dead, Unconscious Pilot Landing

    While Flight 5461 London to Crete was en route, the pilot passed out. The copilot took the correct measures and made an emergency landing at Marco Polo airport in Venice. The unconscious captain was hospitalized, and passengers were obliged to disembark in order to board an alternate flight to Crete. The Titan Airways Airbus was flying for Easyjet. The plane was an Airbus, and there were 170 aboard. EasyJet confirmed that… “flight EZY5461 from London Gatwick to Heraklion, which was being operated by a wet leased Titan aircraft diverted to Venice as a result of the Captain requiring medical assistance. The First Officer performed a routine landing in line with procedures. The aircraft landed safely and was met by emergency services on arrival. The safety and wellbeing of its passengers and crew is easyJet’s highest priority.
    easyJet sent a replacement aircraft and crew from London Gatwick to Venice to operate the flight to Heraklion. This flight has now arrived into Heraklion. Passengers were communicated with throughout and were provided with refreshment vouchers.
    We apologise for any inconvenience experienced due to the diversion and resulting delay.”

    On October 6, the pilot of a United Airlines Boeing 787 Dreamliner between Houston, Texas and San Francisco, California diverted to Albuquerque NM when the co-pilot fell ill and lost consciousness. The pilot landed safety at Albuquerque International Sunport at 8:20 a.m.. A replacement crew completed the flight on the Boeing 787.

    Is this an epidemic? What about American Airlines pilot Capt. Michael Johnston, 57, who died mid-flight after experiencing a medical emergency the morning of October 5? His copilot made an emergency landing of the Airbus A320 in Syracuse, New York and taxied to a gate where paramedics quickly arrived in the cockpit. A replacement crew completed the flight. 147 pax, 5 crew.

    2nd Combat Aviation Brigade’s Chopper Makes Emergency Landing in South Korea

    chopperA chopper, belonging to the 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade, made an emergency landing near Camp Humphreys, located close to South Korea’s Anjeong-ri and Pyeongtaek metropolitan areas, on August 24.

    The OH –58 Kiowa Warrior helicopter was on a routine maintenance flight around the camp when it had to land in emergency.

    Both pilots sustained minor injuries.

    The cause of emergency landing is not clear at the moment.

    United Express Flight Makes Emergency Landing Due to Cabin Depressurization

    United ExpressA United Express flight had to make an emergency landing in Springfield, Missouri, on October 24.

    The flight, en-route from Birmingham, Alabama to Denver, Colorado, was diverted after crew reported cabin depressurization problem.

    The plane landed uneventfully. The airport spokesperson confirmed that 3 passengers were treated for nose and sinus issues which commonly occur in case of cabin depressurization.

    The airline arranged another aircraft which took the passengers to their destination.
