    What: Citrus Aviation single-engine Piper Malibu en route from Gainesville to Lakeland
    Where: just north of Lakeland, Florida
    When: 8:30 p.m. Friday
    Who: 3 on board: a newlywed, her 7-year-old daughter and the pilot flying her husband’s company plane
    Why: The pilot reported a problem, and diverted to the nearest airport in Zephyrhills but the plane did not make it all the way to the airport. After the pilot lost communication, the plane went down in a swamp, in a fiery crash that killed all 3 on board, pilot Thomas Scott Long, 44, of Hudson, Tina Copeland, 46, and her 7 year old daughter Cami.

    Ryanair Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Dublin

    Ryanair flight FR-161 made an emergency landing in Dublin, Ireland, on February 14.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane, heading to Copenhagen, Denmark, was forced to return due to a bird strike.

    The plane landed safely. All 171 passengers and 6 crew members remained unhurt.

    The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.

    S7 Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Russia

    S7 Airlines flight S7-1159 made an emergency landing in Rostov-on-Don, Russia, on December 16th.

    The Airbus A319-100 plane flying from Domodedovo International Airport, Russia, was on approach to Rostov-on-Don when the crew reported an issue with the flaps and entered a hold.

    The plane subsequently landed safely. All one hundred and forty-one passengers and five crew members remained unharmed.

    PSA Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Dayton, Ohio

    PSA Airlines flight AA-5390 had to return for an emergency landing in Dayton, Ohio, on March 23rd.

    The Canadair CRJ-200 plane took off for Charlotte, North Carolina, but had to turn back after the crew received a smoke detector indication.

    The plane landed uneventfully. There were 52 people aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.

    What: American Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-82 en route from Dallas to Memphis
    Where: Little Rock Arkansas
    When: Mar 5, 2012
    Who: 129 passengers, 5 crew
    Why: While en route, one of the plane’s engines developed an oil pressure issue. Pilots diverted to Little Rock and made a safe landing there. Another plane took passengers from Little Rock to Memphis.

    Lufthansa Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Canada due to Smoke in Cockpit

    LufthansaA Lufthansa flight had to divert and make an emergency landing at Gander International Airport, Gander, Newfoundland, Labrador, Canada, on October 18th.

    The Boeing 747 en-route from Frankfurt, Germany, to Orlando, Florida, was mid-air when the crew reported smoke in the cockpit.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All people onboard remained unharmed.

    The passengers were accommodated in a replacement plane.

    The incident remains under investigation.
