    Why: After takeoff, the plane was struck by lightning.

    The lighting strike is probably the reason why an engine failed. The flight diverted to Luxembourg where it made a safe landing, and where they were able to arrange repairs.

    Passengers were provided overnight hotel accommodations, and scheduled to fly to Munich the next day.

    Royal Jordanian Airlines Flight Diverts to Rome due to Medical Emergency

    Royal Jordanian AirlinesA Royal Jordanian Airlines flight made an emergency landing in Rome, Italy, on April 11th.

    The plane, heading from Amman, Jordan, to Chicago, was diverted after a passenger became sick mid-air.

    The plane landed uneventfully. The passenger was rushed to hospital.

    The flight resumed shortly afterwards.

    Bird-Hit Turkish Airlines Plane Safely Lands in Istanbul

    Turkish airlinesTurkish Airlines flight TK-1668 was hit by an eagle in Istanbul, Turkey, on September 7th.

    The Airbus A321-200 plane flying from Hamburg, Germany, was on final approach to Istanbul Airport when an eagle got trapped in the nose gear.

    The plane continued for a safe landing. Everyone aboard remained unhurt.

    The ‘Near Midair Collision’ at the Newark Airport Prompts FAA to Take Action

    The April 24’s incident where two passenger planes were noticed to be in a near-collision situation midair at Newark Liberty International Airport, New Jersey, has led to changes in the landing and takeoff protocols of the airport.

    The Federal Aviation Administration said in recent statement, “The FAA has investigated the recent air traffic incident at Newark and has taken steps to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.”

    According to the new rules administered by the FAA, the east-west Runway 29 will not be used for arrivals simultaneously with another plane taking off from north-south Runway 4R.

    On April 24, a United flight and an ExpressJet flight came at a distance of 200 feet horizontally at the intersection of these two runways. The NTSB’s initial report termed the incident as ‘a near midair collision’.

    Bird-Hit United Flight Returns to Sacramento International Airport

    united airwaysUnited Flight 2005 had to return and make an emergency landing at Sacramento International Airport, California, on November 25.

    The Airbus A320 plane took off for Denver, Colorado, but had to return shortly afterwards after a geese hit its right engine, causing a significant damage.

    The plane landed safely. All 114 passengers remained uninjured.

    The aircraft was taken out of service while the passengers had to re-book the flights.

    Bird-Hit Vistara Airlines Plane Lands Safely in Odisha

    VistaraA Vistara Airlines plane was hit by a bird while descending toward Bhubaneswar in Odisha, India, on May 5th.

    Authorities said the bird struck the nose of the plane that was performing flight UK-709 from New Delhi to Bhubaneswar.

    The plane continued for a safe landing. All 50 passengers and 7 crew members remained unharmed.
