British Airways flight BA343 had to make an emergency landing at London Heathrow Airport in United Kingdom on May 18.
The flight was heading from Nice to Heathrow when the crew requested an emergency landing due to a landing gear malfunction.

Why: After developing instrument problems while en route, the crew turned around and returned to Dammam where they made a safe landing two hours into the flight. The plane underwent repairs before resuming the flight.

When: Oct 21st 2009
Why: While en route, one of the three on board hydraulics systems failed. After landing, the Airbus had to be towed. The plane landed safely with no injuries and had to be towed, as anticipated.

Why: Two phones found in the lavatory prompted the pilot to divert to Raleigh Durham.
A passenger who claimed the phones later was removed from the plane and taken custody by the FBI.

Why: While en route from Houston, a phone was found aboard. Pilots returned to Houston, where the flight underwent a security check.
The flight landed safely in Paris after a five hour delay.

Why: The single-engine plane landed on the runway without its nose gear. After landing on the main wheel, the flight skidded on its belly flinging sparks. No one was injured.

What: Aviastar Mandiri British Aerospace BAe146-300 en route from Jayapura to Wamena Indonesia
Where: Mount Pike
When: Apr 9th 2009
Who: 6 crew: captain, co-pilot, engineer, loadmaster and two flight attendants
Why: The plane was approaching runway 15 at Wamena Airport in foggy conditions, turned and air traffic control lost contact. The controller observed smoke coming from side of Gunung Pike Mountain. When search crews went to the source of the smoke, there were no survivors.
Reportedly, the plane had been carrying rice and flour and 9 tons of Aviation Turbine Fuel. The airport is surrounded by mountains.
