Why: On making a “hard” landing at the Sacramento airport, a brake problem developed (brakes locked?).
The main gear tires blew, and caught afire. Emergency services on hand responded to the fire.
Passengers evacuated by slide with 15 injured.
A 1960 Piper Comanche had smoke in the cabin when there was an engine fire on Oct 8, 2013.
The pilot Kristopher J. Richardson made a safe emergency landing at Hutchinson Airport.
The plane sustained minor damage. No one was injured.
An EasyJet flight en route from Liverpool to Naples had to divert and make an emergency landing at Gatwick airport in West Sussex, United Kingdom, at around 7:20 a.m. on August 28.
The Airbus A320 aircraft carrying 157 passengers was diverted after crew reported smoke in the cockpit.
According to an EasyJet spokesperson, “The plane landed safely at Gatwick and the passengers remained calm. At no point was the safety of passengers threatened…We now want to make sure we get the passengers to Naples as quickly as possible. Meanwhile, the plane is being inspected.”
Lufthansa CityLine flight LH-2311 continued for a safe landing at Munich Airport, Munich, Bavaria, Germany, on March 30.
The Embraer ERJ-195, flying from Amsterdam, Netherlands, was on approach to Munich’s runway when the crew reported unusual odor and smoke on board.
The plane landed safely.
All people onboard remained unharmed.

JetBlue has corrected an earlier report that the plane sustained hail damage. The airline is now saying that a tail strike on take-off caused the damage and subsequently the emergency landing.

Why: Leaving the runway, the plane’s tail impacted either hail or a bird or had a tail strike (reports conflict); the flight returned to JFK and made a safe landing so that the damage could be checked out. Passengers debarked, and boarded an alternative plane some time later.

What: SATA International Airbus A310-300 en route from Lisbon to Ponta Delgada
Where: Ponta Delgada, Portugal

Why: The Airbus had a normal flight but a hard landing at Ponta Delgada. Passengers debarked and took an alternative Airbus to the final (Boston) leg of the trip.
JetBlue flight B6-198 had to return and make an emergency landing in Orlando, Florida, on January 30th.
The Airbus A320-200 plane took off for LaGuardia Airport, New York, but had to turn back due to fumes in the cockpit.
The plane landed safely. Three passengers and three crew members were examined by the medical team at the airport.
