    Why: On takeoff, the right main gear door was stuck open, and the landing gear would not retract. The plain turned around and landed safely at LAX. Passengers debarked and were provided an alternative flight.

    Hard Landing in Mt Gambier

    Who: 1 aboard
    Why: The pilot was landing at Mt Gambier when the landing gear failed. It apparently retracted while landing.

    The plane came to rest pitched on its side in a pool of leaked fuel. No injuries were reported.

    Ryanair Plane Over-Runs Runway in Romania

    Ryanair flight FR-314 over-ran the runway at Henri Coand? International Airport, Romania, on July 25th.

    The Boeing 737-800 flying from Berlin, Germany, had landed safely but over-ran the end of the runway; displaced and damaged the runway end light.

    The plane landed minor damage.

    All 183 people aboard remained safe.

    Ryanair Plane Diverts to Brussels due to Asymmetric Flaps

    RyanairRyanair flight FR-5464 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Brussels Airport, Brussels, Belgium, on February 27.

    The Boeing 737-800, en-route from Madrid, Spain, to Brussels, Belgium, was on approach to Charleroi Airport when the crew detected asymmetry in the flaps, deciding to divert to Brussels Airport.

    The plane landed safely.

    All passengers and crew members aboard remained unhurt.

    British Airways Flight Returns to London Heathrow

    British airwaysBritish Airways Flight 103 from London Heathrow airport, United Kingdom, to Calgary, Canada, had to return and make an emergency landing on the evening of August 12.

    Smoke was discovered in the cockpit of the Boeing 767 while it was flying over Liverpool. The pilot requested an emergency landing which was immediately granted.

    According to a British Airways spokesperson Michele Kropt, “It [the plane] landed safely and all passengers disembarked as normal.”

    She confirmed that the engineers were inspecting the aircraft to determine the cause of smoke.

    Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 Struck by Lightning

    Why: While en route from Sacramento, the Boeing 737 was struck by lightning. The plane landed safely at Bob Hope Airport, and was examined for damage from the lightning strike.

    Two individuals aboard this flight were taken to Providence St. Joseph Medical Center for treatment.
