    United Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Cedar Rapids

    United Airlines flight UA-483 made an emergency landing in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on November 26th.

    The Boeing 737-900 plane heading from Chicago, Illinois, to Phoenix, Arizona, was diverted due to an engine issue.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Southwest Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Lubbock

    Southwest Airlines flight WN-55 made an emergency landing in Lubbock, Texas, on August 28th.

    The Boeing 737-700 plane heading from Phoenix, Arizona, to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, was diverted due to engine vibrations.

    The plane landed safely. All one hundred and four people aboard remained unharmed.

    Tourists Die in Peruvian Crash

    What: Air Nasca Cessna 185 # OB-1808 sightseeing tour of Nazca Lines en route from Maria Reiche airport
    Where: south of Lima, Peru
    When: Oct. 2, 2010
    Who: 6 aboard, 6 fatalities (Four British tourists, Peruvian pilot and co pilot )
    Why: During a flight to observe the Nazca Lines, the plane experienced engine trouble. While the pilot was attempting an emergency landing, the sightseeing tour plane crashed, killing all aboard.

    British passengers included Andrew Brown, 30, Gayle Callow, 34, and Warren Denham. The flight was piloted by Gilberto Zúñiga and Ricardo Cárdenas.

    Some sources are saying there were only the three (not four) British passengers aboard, but other sources say there were three men and a woman in addition to the crew.

    James Dauris, the British ambassador to Peru, has visited the scene of the crash.

    About 40 planes operate in the area where flights have been banned before, due to more than a dozen local carriers not living up to international flight standards.

    RAAF Hercules Rescues 3 Adrift at Sea

    What: Qantas Boeing 767-300 en route from Melbourne to Perth
    Where: Esperance
    When: May 10th 2010
    Who: 3 men aboard a life raft
    Why: While en route, the flight got a message to assist in keeping an eye on a drifting raft while rescue crews came in to assist. An RAAF Hercules C130 was en route, but had not yet arrived–but the rescue arrived before the Boeing so the Qantas flight continued as usual. The Hercules rescued three survivors from a sunken fishing boat. Their emergency beacon had gone off about 7 a m about 93 nautical miles SW of Esperance. The distress flair had been witnessed by rescue personnel. The nearest boat was 50 miles away.

    The owner of the sunken crayfishing boat, Paddy Daniels and his crew Corey Major and Anthony Mansted, were rescued at 1:45pm after a harrowing day in freezing conditions on the life raft. They had boarded it with a hurried selection of supplies at 6 a m after discovering the boat taking on water.

    Delta Airlines Flight Returns to Salt Lake City After Bird Strike

    Delta Airlines flight DL-248 had to return and make an emergency landing in Salt Lake City, Utah, on November 17th.

    The Boeing 767-300 plane took off for Charles de Gaulle Airport, France, but had to turn back due to a bird strike.

    The plane landed back safely. All two hundred and twenty-three people aboard remained unharmed.

    Medical Evacuation Crash Kills 7 Aboard, 3 on Ground

    What: Air Charter Services Pvt. Ltd Pilatus PC-12/45 en route from Jagdish Memorial Hospital to Apollo Hospital.
    Where: Faridabad
    When: May 25, 2011 10:45 pm
    Who: 7 aboard, 3 on the ground, 10 fatalities
    Why: After the pilot reported flying into bad weather, the plane transporting a patient from a Patna hospital to Apollo Hospital (Delhi) and carrying two doctors, two attendants, the pilot and the co-pilot crashed onto the rooftop of two houses in Parvatiya Colony. The plane’s nose broke off and fell to the street below. It appears that local residents may have taken the propellor and other parts of the plane. It did not carry a cockpit voice recorder or a data recorder.

    After the crash, the plane and scattered medical equipment remained on the roof. The 22-year-old patient, was Rahul Raj and the plane’s crew was Dr Rajesh, Dr Arshad, Captain Harpreet, co-pilot Manpreet Kataria, Ratnesh Kumar and male nurse Cyril. Rahul and Ratnesh were cousins, and both residents of Bettiah in West Champaran. Raj, who was in a coma and on a ventilator was being transported to treat jaundice and complications of hepatitis.

    In the Sehrawats house, fifty five-year-old Vedvati, her daughter Sarita (19) and daughter-in-law Rani (20) died in their house in Gali, 3 Mukesh Kunj at 10.35 pm. Because of the heat, they were on the roof at the time of the crash.

    Sobharam Sehrawats, his son Deepak, and nephew Yash were injured.

    The other house that was damaged (but no fatalities) was owned by 37-year-old Chittaranjan Singh.

    Both the 3 residents of the house(s) and the 7 aboard the plane were burned beyond recognition.

    An Indian Airlines flight to Delhi which was due to leave at the same time stayed on the tarmac at Patna instead of flying into the strong winds.

    The plane disappeared from radar at 10:45 pm. It was reported that at the time of crash, strong winds were affecting planes landing at IGI airport. The DCGA is not carrying out the investigation, but it will be carried out independently.
