    What: Air India Airbus A319-100 en route from Chennai to Mumbai
    Where: Mumbai
    When: Mar 19th 2012
    Who: 118 aboard
    Why: While on approach to Mumbai, the plane developed problems and an engine was shut down.

    The Airbus landed safely in Mumbaiwith emergency services on standby. No injuries were reported. No details were provided regarding it the engine locked up, ran hot, leaked or what problem occurred.

    Arkia Flight makes Emergency Landing

    On January 13, 2013, an Arkia Airlines ATR developed an engine problem forcing the pilot to shut down the affected engine and divert from Sde Dov to Ben-Gurion airport. The flight landed with emergency services on standby. None of the 67 aboard had any injuries.

    There was no fire found in the turboprop engine, but Akia Airlines began an investigation, and seems to have discovered a faulty indicator.

    Oil Leak Leads to Engine Shut Down, Emergency Landing Argentina

    What: Sol Lineas Aereas Saab 340A en route from Rosario,SF to Buenos Aires, Argentina
    Where: Rosario
    When: Nov 2nd 2011
    Who: 30 passengers and 3 crew
    Why: On takeoff from Rosario, the left engine had to be shut down. The engine had developed an oil leak through a conduit washer which had to be replaced.

    The flight returned to the airport and made a safe landing fifteen minutes later.

    Norwegian Air Shuttle Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Iceland

    Norwegian Air Shuttle flight DY-7088 had to divert for an emergency landing in Keflavik, Iceland, on July 16th.

    The Boeing 787-800 plane heading from Los Angeles, California, to Stockholm, Sweden, was diverted after the crew needed to shut down one of the engines.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Pilot Killed as Small Plane Crashes in Iowa

    A small plane crashed in the median of Interstate 29, north of downtown Council Bluffs, Iowa, on December 10.

    The Piper Malibu Meridian single-engine plane had just taken off from Eppley Airfield when it started experiencing some issues. Authorities said the pilot radioed to the airport and sought permission to return for an emergency landing, however, the plane clipped a power line and went down.

    The pilot, who was the only one aboard, was killed in the crash. He was identified as John Rogers, 65, of Omaha.

    The FAA and the NTSB are investigating.

    United Airlines Plane Returns to Denver International Airport

    United airlinesUnited Airlines flight 4870 had to return and make an emergency landing at Denver International Airport in Denver, Colorado, on March 14.

    Authorities said the flight had to return after one of its tires blew during takeoff. The flight was en-route to Kansas City, Missouri, at the time.

    The plane landed back safely after burning extra fuel. None of the 71 passengers was harmed.

    The airline accommodated passengers in another flight.
