Malaysia Airlines flight MH-2665 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Kuching, Malaysia, on September 20th.
The Boeing 737-800 plane flying from Tawau to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, was diverted after the crew received an abnormal gear indication.
The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unhurt.

What: Air Greenland de Havilland Dash 8-200 en route from Nuuk to Paamiut
Where: Nuuk
When: Oct 25th 2010
Who: 11 passengers and 3 crew
Why: While en route, a fire was reported in the lavatory. Smoke was detected in the cabin. The crew returned to Nuuk where they made a safe landing.
Maintenance found an oil leak in the bleed air system.
American Eagle Flight 3340 returned to New York’s LaGuardia Airport for emergency landing on July 30.
The airline maintained that, the flight, which was on its way to Knoxville, Tennessee, returned shortly after takeoff due to a mechanical issue. According to the FAA officials, the plane landed in emergency after smoke was detected in the bathroom.
The Embraer 135 aircraft landed safely at about 3 p.m. All 44 passengers and 3 crew members aboard remained unhurt.
The runway remained close for some time.

What: Ural Airlines Airbus A320-200 en route from Novosibirsk to Moscow Russia
Where: Novosibirsk
When: Nov 6th 2011
Who: 130 passengers and 7 crew
Why: Just after takeoff, the plane’s navigation system indicated a failure issue. Although the system is reported to have recovered after a quarter of an hour, the pilots returned to the Tolmachyovo airport in Novosibirsk where they made a safe landing.
Passengers waited for a replacement jet.

What: Thomas Cook Boeing 757-300 en route from Glasgow to Antalya
Where: London
When: Feb 15th 2012
Why: The flight had taken off normally from Glasgow, but while en route, the weather radar system failed.
The crew of flight MT-3614 notified London and were able to divert to Gatwick where they made a safe landing.
One might say it was an overabundance of caution because weather radar might not be considered essential–but considering the distance covered and potential conditions en route and on landing in Antalya, it seems their caution was, in my opinion at least, justified.
If you’re one of those drivers who ignores that oil light on your car’s dashboard when it goes off, then be glad you’re not a pilot. Pilots have the same light, and it can’t be ignored.
It’s a good thing you’re not a pilot, then.
258 passengers aboard a 10:30 a.m. Hawaiian Airlines A330 to Los Angeles were relieved to be back on the ground after the plane they were on developed engine problems and had to return to Honolulu.
Fifteen minutes into the flight, the oil light went on. Pilots shut down the affected engine.
Passengers caught the alternative flight at 11:15 a.m.

Where: 11 miles north of the Santa Fe Municipal Airport off Buckman Road near Canyon Diablo a few miles east of White Rock in an open area with a number of roads.
When: 4 p.m
Who: Two men from Greeley, Colo with minor injuries
Why: After the plane suffered engine failure, the pilot landed in the field…
