    What: An Emirates Airlines Airbus A340-500, registration A6-ERG en route from Melbourne,VI Australia to Dubai United Arab Emirates
    Where: Melbourne Australia
    When: Mar 20th 2009 at 11:30
    Who: 225 on board
    Why: The plane suffered a tail strike on takeoff from Melbourne’s runway 16, climbed and dumped fuel, and when smoke filled the cabin, landed on Melbourne’s runway 34. Damage included some runway lights, damage to the tail skin and access panels.

    Austral Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Argentina

    AustralAustral Airlines flight AR-2505 made an emergency landing in Cordoba, Argentina, on September 29th.

    The plane took off for Buenos Aires, Argentina, but had to return shortly afterwards after a bird ingestion caused vibrations in right hand engine.

    The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    The passengers were accommodated in other flights.

    Jackson Hole Taxiway Excursion

    What: American Airlines 757-200 en route from Chicago to Jackson Wyoming
    Where: Jackson Hole Wyoming
    When: December 29, 2010
    Who: 171 passengers, 10 crew
    Why: On landing in snowy Jackson Hole, the pilot announced the brakes were not working properly, and the plane overran the runway nose-first into what is described as a deep snowbank. Jackson Hole had 7 inches of snow overnight and light snow was falling as the plane slid 350 feet past the runway overrun. There were no reports of injury or damage. Passengers disembarked via stairway after airport crews plowed an access route. Traffic was diverted from the runway, as passengers were shuttled to the gate, and snow equipment was engaged to dig the plane out.

    Condor Air Plane Diverts to Greenland due to Smoke in Cabin

    Condor Air flight DE-2064 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Sondrestrom Air Base, Greenland, on July 20th.

    The Boeing 767-300 flying from Frankfurt, Germany, to Las Vegas, Nevada, had to divert due to smoke in its cabin.

    The plane landed safely.

    No one was injured.

    Australian Passenger in Labour; Malaysia Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Bali

    Malaysia AirlinesMalaysia Airlines flight MH135 had to make an emergency landing at Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali, Indonesia, on October 24.

    Airport spokesperson confirmed that the flight, en-route from Kuala Lumpur to Brisbane, requested a priority landing because an Australian passenger went into labour.

    The plane, carrying 178 passengers, safely landed at 2:10 p.m. The woman, identified as Samual P. Jeyanthi, was shifted to Kasih Ibu Hospital.

    The flight resumed its journey at 4:14 p.m.

    Air India Airbus APU acts up in Hyderabad

    What: Air India Airbus A321-200 en route from Hyderabad to Mumbai
    Where: Hyderabad
    When: Aug 5th 2009
    Who: 120 passengers
    Why: After take-off, the APU (Auxiliary Power Unit) developed a problem. After returning to Hyderabad, maintenance dealt with the issue and within an hour the plane was back in the air. I’d like the registration on this one–we may be hearing from it again.
