    South African Airbus Turbulence Injures 28 over #Malaysia

    southafricanairwaysSouth African Airways Flight SA286, an Airbus A340-313X, was en route from OR Tambo International Airport in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, Gauteng, South Africa, near the city of Johannesburg to Hong Kong International Airport when it encountered severe turbulence four hours from Hong Kong while over Malaysia. The plane suffered cabin damage.

    Three crew and twenty-five passengers were tossed out of their seats and into the ceiling. THere were 163 passengers aboard. Fourteen ambulances waited at Chek Lap Kok airport to transport the injured to North Lantau Hospital, Princess Margaret Hospital and Yan Chai Hospital. Two people are still hospitalized.

    Pilots continued to Hong Kong and made a priority landing.

    The injured were taken off the plane and hospitalized.

    Malaysian authorities will be assisting the Civil Aviation Department in the investigation.

    *A priority landing means that the incident leads to the aircraft being given landing priority by the airport where it is about to land.

    Southwest Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing due to Smoke Indication

    Southwest Airlines flight WN-1604 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Amarillo, Texas, on October 24th.

    The Boeing 737-700 plane heading from Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Las Vegas, Nevada, was diverted after the crew received indication of smoke in a lavatory.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All passengers and crew members remained safe.

    What: Horizon Air de Havilland Dash 8-400 (Alaska Airlines) en route from Seattle Bellingham
    Where: Bellingham
    When: Aug 16th 2009 11:50PM PDT (arrival)
    Who: 76 passengers and 4 crew
    Why: There were no reported problems during the 32 minute flight; however, while landing at Bellingham, the plane overran the runway. No injuries were reported and the plane was towed to the terminal after a delay of 6-8 hours.

    United Express Flight Makes Emergency Landing Due to Cabin Depressurization

    United ExpressA United Express flight had to make an emergency landing in Springfield, Missouri, on October 24.

    The flight, en-route from Birmingham, Alabama to Denver, Colorado, was diverted after crew reported cabin depressurization problem.

    The plane landed uneventfully. The airport spokesperson confirmed that 3 passengers were treated for nose and sinus issues which commonly occur in case of cabin depressurization.

    The airline arranged another aircraft which took the passengers to their destination.

    IndiGo Flight Makes Emergency Landing due to Medical Emergency

    IndiGo AirlinesAn IndiGo Airlines flight made an emergency landing in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, India, on September 21st.

    The plane heading from Kolkata, West Bengal, to Bengaluru, Karnataka, was diverted due to a medical emergency.

    According to Director, Swami Vivekanand International Airport, Santosh Dhoke, “The aircraft landed here at around 2.30 PM to address the medical emergency after a family complained of a health problem suffered by their two-month old baby.”

    The baby was rushed to hospital, however, he could not be saved.

    UVT Aero Jet Returns to Kazan due to Cracked Windshield

    uvt aeroUVT Aero flight UW-535 had to return and make an emergency landing in Kazan, Russia, on December 1st.

    The Canadair CRJ-200 jet took off for Volgograd, Russia, but had to return shortly afterwards after its windshield cracked midair.

    The plane landed back safely. All 16 passengers and 2 crew remained unharmed.
