Why: The plane suffered a tail strike on takeoff from Melbourne’s runway 16, climbed and dumped fuel, and when smoke filled the cabin, landed on Melbourne’s runway 34. Damage included some runway lights, damage to the tail skin and access panels.

Why: While on approach to Islamabad in poor weather conditions during monsoon rain and low visibility, radio contact was lost (at 09:45) and the plane impacted the terrain.Helicopters flew into the mountainous area, which is difficult to access. Initial reports were that there were no survivors then helicopters were reported to have flown five survivors to hospitals. Six bodies have been recovered including the pilot but there are no survivors (in spite of the video report.)

Delta Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing at Tokyo Narita Airport
Delta Airlines flight DL-38 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Tokyo Narita Airport, Japan, on October 19th.The Airbus A330-200 plane heading from Hong Kong, China, to Seattle, Washington, was diverted after the crew needed to shut down one of the engines.
The plane landed safely. All two hundred and thirty people aboard remained unharmed.

Air Berlin Plane Overruns Runway at Sylt Airport
Air Berlin flight AB-6880 overran the end of the runway after landing at Sylt Airport in Sylt, Germany, on September 30th.The incident happened when the Airbus A320-200 plane was coming from Dusseldorf, Germany.
The plane came to stop on soft ground. There were eighty-two passengers and five crew members aboard at the time; all of them remained unharmed.

Cathay Dragon Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Hong Kong
Cathay Dragon flight KA-454 had to return and make an emergency landing in Hong Kong, China, on January 13th.The Airbus A320-200 plane took off for Kaohsiung, Taiwan, but had to turn back due to navigation problems.
The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
