Why: When his engine locked up in a turn after taking off from Gillespie Field, pilot Wayne Oehler of El Cajon made an emergency landing on to the freeway near Riverton road. A California Highway Patrol officer saw the plane in distress and flying low, and cleared the road.

United Airlines Plane Rejects Take-off in California due to Airspeed Issues
United Airlines flight UA-1858 had to reject take-off at San Francisco International Airport, San Francisco, California, on May 11th.The Boeing 777-200 en-route to Denver, Colorado, had to reject taking-off after the first officer’s airspeed disagreed with the other airspeed indicators.
The plane returned to the apron safely.
No injuries were reported.
Bek Air Plane Lands without Landing Gear in Kazakhstan
Bek Air flight Z9-2041 had to make an emergency landing at Astana International Airport, Astana, Kazakhstan, on March 27.The Fokker 100, en-route from Kzyl-Orda to Astana, was on approach to the runway when the crew detected failure of the landing gear and went around for about 50 minutes before prompting the plane to land without the gear.
The plane received substantial damage.
All people onboard remained safe.
The incident is under investigation.
