What: An American Airlines Boeing 767-300 en route from Sao Paulo to Miami,FL Where: Sao Paulo When: Nov 18 2010 Why: After takeoff, the right engine made an explosive noise, suffered an engine surge and the pilots shut it down. The pilots returned to Sao Paulo and made a safe landing. Significant damage occurred in the engine, and it will have to be replaced.

Air Algerie flight AH-1020 had to return and make a precautionary landing at Algiers International Airport, Algiers, Algeria, on August 6th.
The Boeing 737-600 en-route to Marseille, France, had to return shortly after the crew detected a contaminated fuel filter, reporting they had to shut down its engine.
The plane landed safely.
All 97 people onboard remained unharmed.

What: Iran Air Airbus A300-600 en route from Tehran to Stockholm Where: Istanbul When: Aug 26th 2010 Who: 236 aboard Why: While en route, the plane developed engine trouble. The crew had to shut down an engine, and divert to Istanbul. The flight made a safe landing.

By nightfall tonight, 34 bodies have been recovered.
Investigative crews sort through baby sandals, and airplane parts drifting ashore. People are questioning why the flight was not delayed due to the storm raging at the time of takeoff.
The USS-Ramage, and US P-3 surveillance aircraft are helping with search and rescue efforts.
The plane was last serviced on Dec. 25.
Reports abound that the plane was seen to be on fire on its way down. If reports of an engine fire proved to be correct, it would have been difficult to handle at such a low altitude; but reports of a lighting strike, compounded by poor visibility and high winds compounded by a bird strike are equally as possible.

What: Spirit Airlines Airbus A319 en route from Los Angeles to Fort Lauderdale Where: Houston When: July 8, 2012 Who: 100+ passengers Why: After a disruption aboard the flight, the pilots diverted the Spirit Airlines flight to Houston, where they made a safe landing. Passengers who disembarked had no Spirit Airlines counter because, although flights are soon scheduled to begin landing there, currently there is no Spirit Airlines Customer Service at Houston Intercontinental Airport.
On arrival, the disruptive passenger was handed left in the custody of Houston Law Enforcement.
The disruptive passenger was an elderly blind frenchman in his eighties who had become disoriented and frightened. His son was called by authorities.
Passengers reboarded the flight and departed Houston at 6:42 PM.
