    Who: 144 passengers
    Why: After takeoff, the pilots and crew of the flight felt dizzy and impaired. Passengers also reported feeling dizzy after the ground power unit started the engines. The pilot reported the emergency and returned to Alicante and made a safe landing.

  • Rhode Islanders Homebuilt Crashes in Iowa Field

    What: homemade single-engine plane attempting to land at Marshalltown airport
    Where: Iowa field
    When: Wednesday 7 p.m.
    Who: 74-year-old Vernon Knott and passenger 77-year-old Clara Erickson from from Rhode Island
    Why: The plane crash-landed in the field. Pilot and passenger survived.

    Dust Storm Diverts Turkish Plane

    What: Turkish Airlines flight TK-260 en route from Istanbul to Kayseri.
    Where: Nevsehir
    When: Sunday
    Who: 194 passengers
    Why: The plane could not land at it’s scheduled Erkilet Airport destination, because of the wind and limited visibility due to dust. The flight was rerouted to Kapadokya Airport in Nevsehir where it made an emergency landing. Passengers were bused to Kayseri.

    Why: A bird strike right after take-off caused the pilots to request an emergency landing. No one was injured, and the flight took off after a delay of four hours.

    US Airways Emergency Landing

    What: US Airways Bombardier CRJ-300 en route from New York
    Where: Philadelphia International Airport
    When: April 22, 2011 7:30 pm
    Who: 12 passengers and 3
    Why: Citing engine failure, the pilot of a US Airways flight made a successful emergency landing in Philadelphia.

    Emergency crews were on standby. No injuries were reported, and no cause for the failure.

    Delta Airlines Flight Returns to Atlanta After Engine Failure

    Delta Airlines flight DL-1418 made an emergency landing in Atlanta, Georgia, on September 5th.

    The Boeing 757-200 plane took off for Orlando, Florida, but had to turn back due to an engine failure.

    The plane landed safely. All one hundred and twenty-seven people aboard remained unharmed.
