Yak 42 Crashes on Takeoff from Yaroslavl, Hockey Team Wiped Out

Why: The flight took off from Yaroslavl but failed to climb, and struck an antenna outside of the airport, then struck the ground. Tunoshna ATC and other witnesses saw the flight roll (list) left and impact the ground.

Five fire brigades and a group of psychologists are on the scene.

Visibility was above 50km and it was partly cloudy according to local radar.

The plane is broken in two, the fuselage in the Volga river and the tail of the plane on the bank, a thousand feet from the airport. Reports are that the plane hit an antenna and Russian media quoted a flight traffic controller saying that the pilot failed to gain adequate height on takeoff.

Two passengers, flight engineer and the Russian player Alexander Galimov have been hospitalized with severe burns to 90% of their bodies. A third (unnamed) individual also has been hospitalized. Currently all bodies have been recovered. 103 rescue personnel were on hand, and 44 machines, including TSEPP aircraft.

The team was heading to Minsk, the capital of Belarus, where it was to play Thursday against Dinamo Minsk.

The charter flight was operated by Yak-Service Airlines, a Tatarstan Air plane. According to Russian FAA press officer, the plane “went through cursory maintenance service before departure to Yaroslavl and fully complied with all safety standards. The plane was built in 1993 and was certified airworthy until October 1.”

There has been discussion whether RA-42433 or RA-42434 was involved.

The collapse of the Yak-42 in the Yaroslavl region RE: the fall occurred 07.09.2011g 5.16 Yak-42 (to fire) in the locality Tunosha Yaroslavl region Yaroslavl region (2.5 km northwest of the airport Tunosha) follow the route of “Yaroslavl-Minsk”.

According to preliminary data, on board were 45 people, 37 passengers and 8 crew members. Emergency rescuers recovered the two male survivors. They were taken to the hospital. The accident attracted 103 people and 44 units of machinery, including the Russian Emergencies Ministry – 64 men and 17 units.

    Antonov Emergency Landing in Mirny

    On Feb 05, 2013, an Alrosa Mirny Air Enterprise Antonov An-38-100 with 27 aboard was en route from Mirny Airport to Nakyn field when the luggage hatch opened.

    The flight ended eighteen minutes after it started when pilots made an emergency landing.

    2 Killed as Small Plane Crashes Near Idaho-Wyoming Border

    A small plane crashed in eastern Idaho near the Wyoming border, on January 4th.

    Authorities said the vintage Yak 52 Russian trainer aircraft went down about 2 miles north of the Alpine Airport, Wyoming.

    There were two people aboard, including Reade Genzlinger, 61, of Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania, and MacKenzie Ruston, 17, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Both of them were killed in the crash.

    The FAA is investigating.

    Asiana Cargo Jet Lost at Sea

    What: Asiana Boeing 747-400 Cargo plane en route from South Korea’s Incheon International Airport and to Pudong China
    Where: southern resort island of Jeju, South Korea
    When: July 27, 2011 3:05am local time
    Who: two people
    Why: At 7600 feet, the crew reported control problems, and the aircraft’s transponder transmitted the emergency code. Sixty-seven minutes after takeoff, the crew reported fire in the cargo hold and lost contact with ATC. They were planning to divert to Jeju, but instead the plane crashed off of Jeju island. There were strong winds at the time of the plane’s disappearance. The captain was 51 and the first officer was 44; and pilot, Choi Sang-ki, and co-pilot, Lee Jung-woong are still missing.

    One wing of the plane has been recovered, then the rest of the wreckage was found by a coast guard patrol boat 67 miles west of Jeju city. The 58 tons of cargo included amino acid solution, synthetic resin, lithium batteries, paint and other potentially dangerous material. A search for the black boxes is ongoing.

    Where: border between Veracruz and Puebla
    When: 10-SEP-2009
    Who: 2 fatalities, 3 injuries. The two dead are a lieutenant and a mechanic
    Why: No reason is given for the crash. The weather at the time was rainy and foggy with limited visibility. Survivors were taken to hospitalization facilities in Jalapa and Perote

    9 Killed as Sightseeing Plane Crashes in Alaska

    A sightseeing plane crashed into a cliff near Ketchikan, Alaska, on June 25.

    The DeHavilland DHC-3T Otter aircraft was on a shore excursion from a Holland America Line cruise ship when it went down.

    Nine people were killed in the crash, including the pilot Bryan Krill, 64, of Hope, Idaho and 8 passengers.

    The deceased passengers had left Seattle on June 20 for a 7-day round trip on MS Westerdam cruise ship. They were identified as Hal Cheney, 71, of Lodi, California, Mary Doucette, 59, of Lodi, California, Glenda Cambiaso, 31, of North Potomac, Maryland, Hugo Cambiaso, 65, of North Potomac, Maryland, June Kranenburg, 73, of Medford, Oregon, Leonard Kranenburg, 63, of Medford, Oregon, Margie Apodaca, 63, of Sparks, Nevada and Raymond Apodaca, 70, of Sparks, Nevada.

    The cause of crash is under investigation.
