Of the 58 Brazilians aboard the notorious Rio-Paris Air France Flight 447, 18 have been found and identified.
Of the 153 victims, 74 reside on the ocean floor. Some of those may be the 40 lost Brazilians.
During the recovery process, some families chose not to disturb the remains. Some of the bodies were simply lost at sea.
There is still a lot of finger-pointing going on. Whatever the cause, Air France Flight 447 stalled and crashed in bad weather, killing 153.

Why: While en approach to Santiago, the pilots encountered severe turbulence. The Andes area is well known area for turbulence (Aconcagua mountain (22,831 ft)
The pilots made a safe landing. Six flight attendants were injured.
American Airlines flight AA-759 was intercepted by fighter jets on the way to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on July 19th.
The Airbus A330-300 plane flying from Athens, Greece, was in Italian Airspace when it lost radio communication, prompting the authorities to dispatch two Eurofighter jets from Istrana, Italy.
The communication was later re-established, and the fighter jets returned to the base.
The flight continued to Philadelphia.

What: Iberia Airbus A320-200 en route from Brussels Belgium to Madrid, Spain
Where: Bordeaux
When: Nov 22nd 2009
Who: 94 passengers and 6 crew
Why: While en route from Brussels, the flight experienced a loss of cabin pressure. The plane performed an emergency descent, and diverted to Bordeaux, where it landed safely.
Some passengers were treated for ear pain, but otherwise there were no medical issues reported. Passengers were booked on alternative flights.
British Airways flight BA-1468 made an emergency landing at Heathrow Airport, England, on January 15th.
The Airbus A319-100 plane took off for Inverness, Scotland, but had to return after the crew received indication of an issue with the brakes.
The plane landed back safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.
Air Berlin flight AB-7416 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Daytona Beach, Florida, on February 25th.
The Airbus A330-200 plane heading from Dusseldorf, Germany, to Cancun, Mexico, was diverted after smoke was noticed in the cockpit.
The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
Brazilian airline TAM admitted one of the thrust reversers on the Airbus A320 that crashed at San Paulo was not operating.
Its right braking system was deactivated in accordance with the Airbus manufacturer specifications approved by the Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac). There were problems with the brake days before the disaster.
Brazil’s Air Force Accident Investigation and Prevention chief Jorge Kersul said any aircraft can land properly without using the reverse brake. The reverse brake is only an additional instrument to help the plane stop.
Specialists said that if the airport’s runway is wet, it is difficult to land without using the reverse brake.
The investigation will last some ten months.
