    Swiss International Air Lines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Senegal

    Swiss International Air Lines flight LX-92 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Dakar, Senegal, on March 13th.

    The Airbus A340-300 plane heading from Zurich, Switzerland, to Sao Paulo, Brazil, was diverted due to an issue with the fuel pump.

    The plane landed safely. There were 215 passengers aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.

    U.S. Airways Flight Lands Without Nose Gear

    US AirwaysU.S. Airways Flight 1825 had to make an emergency landing at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas, on the night of February 9.

    The Embraer 190 plane was coming from Philadelphia when the pilot reported an issue with its nose gear. According to the Houston Airport System spokesperson David Hebert, “They did a couple of turns around the airport airspace, talked to the FAA tower, tried to get visual confirmation that the nose gear was, in fact, inoperable. Unfortunately it wasn’t working properly. So the airline talked to the pilots and they made the determination to go ahead and do the landing without the benefit of the nose gear.”

    The plane, carrying 52 passengers and 4 crew members, landed successfully. According to the airline, “One passenger has been transported to a local hospital, however, the injuries of that passenger are not reported to be serious.”

    The FAA and the NTSB is investigating.

    Nagpur Landing with Faulty Hydraulics

    What: Air India Airbus A319-100 en route from Mumbai to Nagpur
    Where: Nagpur
    When: May 24th 2011
    Who: 153 passengers
    Why: On approach to Nagpur, the pilot reported “a technical fault.” The plane developed a hydraulic problem. Pilots made a safe landing at the Nagpur airport. There is no mention if the foam was employed or if emergency services were on standby. The return flight was cancelled. Passengers were provided accommodations until the replacement flight.

    Crop Duster Plane Crashes in Australia

    A small plane crashed in Kirknie near Townsville, Queensland, Australia, on July 27.

    A young farmer was piloting the crop duster plane when it went down. The pilot sustained minor injuries and was treated on the scene.

    The cause of accident is still under investigation.

    EasyJet Flight Diverts to Lyon due to Smoke in Cockpit

    EasyJet flight U2-8943 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Lyon, France, on January 6th.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane heading from Gatwick Airport, England, to Grenoble, France, was diverted due to smoke in the cockpit.

    The plane landed safely. All one hundred and seventy passengers and five crew members remained unharmed.

    All Nippon Airways Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Tokyo

    All Nippon AirwaysAll Nippon Airways flight NH-456 had to make an emergency landing at runway 23 of Haneda Airport, Japan, on September 3.

    The Airbus A320-200, heading towards Tokyo from Saga, Japan, had to be landed in emergency due to an issue with one of its hydraulic systems.

    The plane landed uneventfully.

    All 90 people aboard remained unhurt.
