What: Singapore Airlines Boeing 747-400 Where: Taiwan When: October 31, 2000, Who: 179 people aboard, 83 fatalities, 44 injuries Why: On October 31, 2000, approximately 2317 Taiwan time (1517 UTC), Singapore Airlines Flight SQ006 Boeing 747-400 airplane entered the incorrect runway at Chiang- KaiShek (CKS) Airport, Taiwan. Heavy rain and strong winds from typhoon “Xiang Sane” prevailed at the time of the accident. The airplane, during the take-off roll, was destroyed by its collision with the runway construction equipment and by post impact fire. There were a total of 179 people on board with 159 passengers, 3 flight crewmembers and 17 cabin attendants. There were a total of 83 fatalities (including 4 cabin crewmembers), and 44 people injured.

What: Iran Air Airbus A300-600 en route from Frankfurt to Tehran Where: Vienna When: Oct 13th 2010 Who: 215 aboard Why: The flight had diverted to Vienna for fuel, and was taking off when an indicator alerted for a fire in the right engine. (Passengers heard a loud report. )
The pilot aborted the takeoff, and passengers disembarked on to the tarmac.

What: Eurocopter EC120 helicopter en route to Nanga Merit Kapit Division Where: Sarawak, Malaysia When: July 20, 2012 Who: 4 aboard Why: A privately owned helicopter with four people aboard went down Sungai Teriso estuary near Sebuyau near a small coastal town in Sarawak Borneo. The German pilot, Rko Steger swam for hours to reach Kampung Tebelu, Sebuyau. Fisherman pulled him from the river estuary. Three others —two men and a woman named Peter Ato Mayau, 53, Siti Khuzaima and Henry Loh—had been aboard the helicopter and are still missing. The two engineers and the quantity surveyor aboard the helicopter and that they were flying to Nanga Merit to look at a school project.

What: Piper Cherokee Where: crashed in trees two miles from Alpine County, Calif., airport, near Woodfords south of Lake Tahoe. When: late Thursday morning Who: Pilot 53-year-old Raymond Wieveg Why: Pilot radioed in engine failure then attempted an emergency landing. The pilot was the only one on board. He did not survive the crash.

A small plane crashed into a home located at 925 NE 26th Ave. in Pompano Beach, Florida, on April 25th.
The Hawker Beechcraft 76 plane went down shortly after taking off from Pompano Beach Airpark.
There were two men and a woman aboard the plane at the time; all of them were critically injured. Authorities confirmed that no one on the ground was injured.
The aircraft is registered to Florida Aviation Academy.
The FAA is investigating.

A small plane crashed into the Long Island Sound near Shoreham, Suffolk County, New York, on December 11th.
Authorities said the pilot reported engine issues before the Beech BE36 plane went down.
There were two people aboard at the time, including the pilot Inderpal Chhabra, 48, and passenger David Tobachnik, 59. Both were shifted to Stony Brook University Hospital.

What: Agni Air Dornier 228 en route from Pokhara to Jomsome Airport, Nepal Where: Jomsom Airport, Nepal When: May 14, 2012, 9.45 a.m Who: 21 aboard, 15 fatalities 18 passengers, 3 crew Why: Fifteen minutes after taking off from Pokhara, the plane with 21 passengers aboard crashed by Jomsom Airport, Nepal. Reports say that a wing contacted ground 890 feet north of the airport, and the nose embedded/impacted a muddy slope. Reports are the plane was attempting to return to Pokhara.
At the time of approach, weather was fine, though clear air turbulence can occur any time. Investigations will begin regarding technical problems with the plane, including the one that made the pilots turn back to the airport. Five surviving passengers were airlifted to Pokhara, for medical care at the Manipal College of Medical Sciences. The plane impacted behind the army barracks. There were 16 Indians aboard. A Danish couple, Emilie Jorgensen, 29, and Andreas Rasch, 30, are said to have survived the crash.

The passengers had been going to visit a pilgrimage site, Muktinath.
Reports are that most of the fatalities were Indian. One source, myrepublica.com said that there were 15 fatalities and six rescued. Numbers may not be accurate.
The bodies of pilot Prabhu Sharan Pathak and co-pilot J.D. Maharjan were among those recovered.
The marketing director of Agni Air, Pramod Pandey, said that there were 16 indians aboard, and six survivors. Three children, two foreigners and an air hostess R. Haiju survived at least to the hospital, all in critical condition.
Jomsom airport is known for unpredictable turbulence.
