    What: SAA South African Airways Airbus A340-300 en route from Johannesburg (South Africa) to Perth,WA
    Where: Perth
    When: Dec 6th 2011
    Why: After a normal flight, on approach to Perth, the plane was struck by lightning. Subsequently, pilots reported problems and began circling the airport. They did a flyby to observe the condition of the tires which were reported as having all “indications lost.” The plane eventually landed safely.

    US-Based Cargo Plane Crashes Off St. Maarten

    A cargo plane, operating flight SKZ7101, crashed just after taking off from St. Maarten-Princess Juliana International airport, located in St. Maarten, a part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, on October 29.

    The plane, operated by a U.S. company SkyWay Enterprises was heading from Philipsburg on St Maarten to San Juan, Puerto Rico, when it went down into ocean around 3.2 kilometers from the airport.

    There were 2 pilots aboard the aircraft at the time of accident. One of them was found dead while the other one is still missing.

    The cause of accident is not clear at the moment. According to the local officials, an investigation will be conducted with the assistance from the U.S.

    Engine Shut Down Diverts Airbus to Cairo

    What: Eurofly Airbus A-330 en route from the Seychelles to Milan Italy
    Where: Cairo airport
    When: 9-27-2009
    Who: 235 people on board
    Why: While en route, the plane experienced an engine problem and had to shut down one of its engines. On landing, passengers were provided accommodations and an alternative flight on a Neos Boeing to continue to their destination.

    Eurowings Flight Makes Emergency Landing due to Flaps Problem

    Eurowings flight EW-598 made an emergency landing at Palma de Mallorca Airport, Spain, on September 14th.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane flying from Cologne, Germany, was on final approach to Palma de Mallorca Airport when the crew went around due to an issue with the flaps.

    The plane subsequently landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    Lufthansa Flight Returns to Frankfurt with Cracked Windshield

    Lufthansa flight LH-1162 had to return and make an emergency landing in Frankfurt, Germany, on August 17th.

    The Airbus A321-200 plane took off for Faro, Portugal, but had to turn back due to a cracked windshield.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Helicopter Crashes in Puerto Rico; 1 Killed, 3 Injured

    A private helicopter crashed on a beach in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, on June 30th.

    It is believed that the aircraft was carrying four people when it went down.

    One person was killed in the crash. He was identified as Carlos Virelles Jimenez, 53. Three others were injured.

    The cause of crash is being investigated.
