    Aeroflot Flight Returns to Moscow due to Gear Problem

    Aeroflot flight SU-232 had to return and make an emergency landing at Sheremetyevo International Airport, Russia, on January 25th.

    The Airbus A330-300 plane took off for Delhi, India, but had to turn back after the crew failed to retract the nose and left main gear.

    The plane landed back safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    British Airways Flight Makes Emergency Landing at Berlin Tegel Airport

    British Airways flight BA-232 made an emergency landing at Berlin Tegel Airport, Germany, on November 16th.

    The Airbus A321-200 plane heading from Moscow Domodedovo Airport, Russia, to Heathrow Airport, England, was diverted due to the loss of cabin pressure.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    The Silk Air Airbus Hits Fiery Fast Brakes In Solo

    What: Silkair Airbus A319-100 en route from Singapore to Solo Indonesia
    Where: Solo
    When: Mar 6th 2012
    Who: 124 passengers and 7 crew
    Why: On landing at Solo, the plane touched down with the left main gear afire.

    Passengers evacuated by way of emergency slides. There were no injuries reported.

    The cause of the gear fire is under investigation although SilkAir says the smoke originated in overheated breaks and that there was no fire.

    Delta Bird Strike Emergency Landing at JFK

    What: Delta Airlines Boeing 757-200 en route from New York to Los Angeles,CA
    Where: New York
    When: Apr 19th 2012
    Who: 172 passengers and 7 crew
    Why: After taking off from JFK, the plane had a bird strike. A bird was ingested by a right engine, which caused an engine failure. Pilots informed ATC.

    Passengers feared the worst as they saw the birds, heard the impact and smelled the smoke, but the cool headed pilot was able to make a visual landing while flying on one engine.

    Matthew Kroll, told reporters”We were taking off and two seconds off the ground, the whole plane shutters and you hear this low growl. Then you smell the smoke in the cabin. People were relatively calm because it happened about three second after take-off. Everyone saw what happened and you could smell it. It was more dead bird than smoke. The pilot came out and said we have to circle back. It took about four minutes and we were back on the runway.”

    The bird strike was taped by a passenger and has been incorporated into the reports below:

    Rostov-on-Don plane skids off runway

    A Ural Airlines Airbus A320-214 en route from Moscow (Domodedovo airport) to Rostov-on-Don, ran off the runway on landing.

    The plane was towed to the parking lot. Passengers were carted to the gate.

    There were 119 people aboard with no injuries reported.

    The Airbus damaged two runway lights, but airport operations are continuing as usual.

    IndiGo Flight Rejects Takeoff From Hyderabad

    IndiGo flight 6E-743 had to reject takeoff from Hyderabad, India, on October 9th.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane was accelerating to takeoff for Goa, India, when the crew saw a vehicle on the runway and rejected takeoff at high speed.

    The plane safely retuned to the apron.

    Everyone aboard remained unharmed.
