    Bristow Chopper Makes Emergency Landing at Aberdeen Airport

    BristowA Bristow-operated offshore helicopter had to return and make an emergency landing at Aberdeen International Airport in Scotland, United Kingdom, on June 26.

    The company released a statement saying, “Bristow Helicopters Ltd can confirm that one of its helicopters requested priority landing at Aberdeen Airport today… A caution light falsely displayed causing the false alarm. The airport emergency services attended as per standard practice, but no assistance was required.”

    The aircraft safely landed at 1:40 p.m. There were 6 passengers and 2 crew members aboard at the time; all of them remained unharmed.

    Fokker 100 Loses Tire, Lands Safely in Montenegro

    What: Montenegro Airlines Fokker 100 en route from Podgorica Montenegro to Rome
    Where: emergency landing in Podgorica Montenegro
    When: Friday Feb 27
    Who: 33 people on board (28 passengers 5 crew)
    Why: The plane took off for Rome at 8:55 a.m but when a wheel on the left side of the main undercarriage fell off, the crew dumped fuel in the Adriatic sea (or Skadarsko Lake), and returned to Podgorica thirty minutes later for a safe landing.

    What: Swiss Airlines Airbus A319-100 en route from St. Petersburg to Zurich
    Where: St. Petersburg
    When: Jan 10th 2010
    Who: 123 passengers and 5 crew
    Why: After a successful takeoff, the flight crew informed ATC that there were vibrations in one of the engines. The plane returned to Pulkovo Airport and made a safe landing, where maintenance confirmed a bird strike.

    What: Sun Express Boeing 737-800 en route from Germany to Turkey
    Where: Thessaloniki airport
    When: Jan 22, 2010
    Who: 69 (?) aboard (62 passengers and 6 crew) (disagreeing sources)
    Why: After a crew member found a note written on a restroom mirror saying “Bomb. We are going to die today,” and an unknown person called the pilot and told him of a bomb on the aircraft, the crew diverted the plane to Thessaloniki airport.

    The plane was isolated and searched. However no bomb was found. An individual was briefly detained (first in Greece, later in Turkey) for having a pen with ink matching the message on the mirror .

    Hainan Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in China

    Hainan AirlinesHainan Airlines flight HU-7755 had to return and make an emergency landing in Shenzhen, China, on May 12th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane took off for Zhengzhou, China, but had to return shortly afterwards after the left hand engine failed.

    The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.

    Tigerair Australia Flight Makes Emergency Landing due to Smoke On Board

    Tigerair Australia flight TT-612 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Coffs Harbour, New South Wales, Australia, on January 20th.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane heading from Sydney to Coolangatta, Australia, was diverted after smoke was noticed in the cockpit and cabin.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
