    Cessna Emergency Landing in the Blueberry Barrens, Maine


    What: single-engine Cessna 182 on a routine cross-country training flight, after leaving Biddeford Municipal Airport on the second leg of the flight.
    Where: field in Kennebunk Maine known as the Blueberry Barrens.
    When: December 15, 2008-Monday afternoon
    Who: Pilot/flight instructor Tim Campbell and student pilot Bob Irving
    Why: The pilot heard unusual noises and saw smoke coming from the plane’s engine, with low oil pressure. He made an emergency landing experiencing “catastrophic engine failure.” The pilot intended to keep the plane’s nose up to make Sanford Airport, but realizing he could not make it, he notified the airport, shut of his fuel and landed in the field without injury and without visible damage to the plane.

    What: SAS Scandinavian Airlines Boeing 737-700 en route from Bergen to Oslo (Norway)
    Where: Bergen
    When: Mar 2nd 2011
    Who: 89 passengers
    Why: After takeoff, the right engine started misbehaving, making rude noises and sparking. The pilots had to return to Bergen to get the engine’s attitude adjusted.

    Emergency Landing at Irkutsk

    What: Boeing 737 en route from Irkutsk to Moscow
    Where: Irkutsk Airport
    When: Oct 16, 2012
    Why: An unidentified Boeing 737 developed problems with the landing gear. It was in the air from 9:30 to 10:24.

    After burning off and dumping fuel, pilots returned to the airport and made a safe landing with emergency services on standby.

    Peruvian Airlines Plane Catches Fire after Veering Off Runway in Jauja, Peru

    Peruvian Airlines flight P9-112 caught fire after it veered off the runway at Francisco Carle Airport in Jauja, Peru, on March 28th.

    The Boeing 737-300 plane was coming from Lima, Peru, when it skidded off the runway and burst into flames.

    The airline said all 141 people aboard were safely evacuated and none of them sustained any considerable injuries.

    The incident is being investigated.

    Air Algerie Flight Diverts to Algiers due to Landing Gear Issue

    Air Algerie flight AH-1113 made an emergency landing in Algiers, Algeria, on December 8th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane heading from Paris Orly Airport, France, to Bejaia, Algeria, was diverted due to an issue with the landing gear.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Air Cargo Plane Makes Emergency Landing in South Dakota due to Engine Problem

    An Air cargo plane had to divert and make an emergency landing at Mitchell Municipal Airport, Mitchell, South Dakota, on the night of October 11th.

    The Fairchild Metro Three Turbopop en-route from Minot, North Dakota, to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, was mid-air when it encountered an engine problem.

    The plane landed uneventfully.

    The pilot, who was the only person aboard, remained unharmed.
