SkyWest Airlines flight 3167 made an emergency landing in St. Louis. Missouri, on August 22nd.
The plane heading from Atlanta, Georgia, to Chicago, Illinois, was diverted after it encountered severe turbulence.
The plane landed safely. Three people, including a flight attendant and two passengers, were taken to a hospital.
The flight was operating as American Eagle.

Why: While en route, passengers felt vibrations, and smelled smoke before the pilots made an emergency diversion at the Rochester airport. They landed with the fire department on standby.
An engine was judged to be faulty and is being replaced while at the Rochester airport. Most of the stranded passengers finished the last leg of their trip on buses provided by Delta, though some rented cars.

What: Horizon Air de Havilland Dash 8-400 en route from Billings to Seattle

Why: Encountering turbulence while en route, one flight attendant aboard the Horizon Air flight was injured. The pilot returned to Billings and made a safe landing.
Expressjet flight EV-4296 made an emergency landing in Wichita, Kansas, on June 20th.
The plane, flying from Houston, Texas, declared an emergency due to smoke in the cockpit.
The plane landed uneventfully. There were 52 people aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.
United Airlines flight UA-1098 had to return and make an emergency landing in Houston, Texas, on May 20th.
The Boeing 737-800 plane took off for San Jose, Costa Rica, but had to turn back after the crew noticed a hydraulic problem.
The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

Why: When the plane’s left engine pressure dropped too low, the Air Canada plane made an emergency landing, leaking oill and on one engine, but essentially intact. (Reports do not say so, but the pilot probably shut down the engine as a precaution. One presumes this is because landing on one engine is better than landing on one working engine and one engine on fire.) Passengers debarked on to the tarmac and were carried by shuttle to the terminal.
A passenger is quoted as saying that the only way he knew there was anything wrong was “all the fire engines chasing us down the runway.” Another passenger described the fight as being scary (what if the other engine went?), but that the crew was totally in control, calm and amazing.
A Saudi Arabian Airlines flight made an emergency landing in Bisha, Saudi Arabia, on February 2nd.
The plane heading from from Riyadh to Jazan, Saudi Arabia, was diverted after a passenger suffered a medical emergency.
The plane landed safely.
