    Breaking news: Helicopter Crash in Yakutia

    On July 2, a Polyarnye Avialinii airline Mil Mi-8 helicopter en route from Deputatsky (a village) was on a routine flight when air traffic control lost contact. The chopper was flying from the village of Deputatsky to Kazachye village.

    The helicopter flew over a pass, encountered severe turbulence reported as “a powerful air stream.” Reports indicate that the helicopter’s tail grazed a hill. The official report says the helicopter was located “45 km north-west of the airport. The helicopter pilot made a hard landing. Because of the strong downdraft helicopter literally pressed to the slope of the hill.” The airport in question refers to the landing strip of origin, near Deputatsky.

    The plane crashed in Yakutia 45 kilometers from takeoff. There were 25 passengers and a 3 person crew. Initial reports say fifteen died, but that count has been raised to 19. Fourteen adults and 11 children were among the passengers.

    Search and rescue were deployed as well as emergency responders, including thirty rescuers from Far Eastern regional search and rescue team, and experts of Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations of Emergency Psychological Aid Centre, and Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.

    Responders number more than 100 people and 11 vehicles.

    EasyJet Flight Makes Emergency Landing after Drunk Passenger Tries to Open Door Mid-Air

    EasyjetEasyJet flight EZY8896 had to make an emergency landing in Bordeaux, France, on March 7th.

    The Airbus A320, heading from Marrakesh, Morocco, to Gatwick Airport, United Kingdom, had to be diverted after a drunk male passenger tried to open an emergency door mid-air.

    The plane landed safely. The man was escorted out of the plane by the French police.

    The airline confirmed the incident and said, “easyJet’s cabin crew are trained to assess and evaluate all situations and to act quickly and appropriately to ensure that the safety of the flight and other passengers is not compromised at any time. Whilst such incidents are rare we take them very seriously, do not tolerate abusive or threatening behaviour onboard and always push for prosecution. The safety and wellbeing of passengers and crew is always easyJet’s priority.”

    AeroMéxico Flight Returns to Mexico after Part of Engine Cover Comes Off

    aeromexicoAeroMéxico flight 3351 had to return and make an emergency landing at Mexico City International Airport, Mexico, on December 23.

    The plane took off for Cancún, Mexico, but had to return shortly afterwards after a portion of right engine cover became detached.

    The plane landed uneventfully. No injuries were reported.

    Ryanair Flight Returns to Warsaw Modlin Airport, Poland

    Ryanair flight FR-4060 had to return and make an emergency landing at Warsaw Modlin Airport, Poland, on February 7th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane took off for Malaga, Spain, but had to return shortly afterwards after the crew suspected a tailstrike.

    The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained safe.

    Turkish Airlines Flight Diverts to Vienna due to Fumes in Cabin

    Turkish Airlines flight TK-1945 made an emergency landing in Vienna, Austria, on October 9th.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane heading from Istanbul, Turkey, to Brussels, Belgium, was diverted after the crew reported fumes in the cabin.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All one hundred and twenty-nine people aboard remained unharmed.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane heading from San Francisco, California, to New Orleans, Louisiana, was diverted after a strong odor was noticed in the cabin.
