Why: After a bird strike, the medical helicopter had to make an emergency landing. The bird involved was a black vulture; and it came right through the windshield and struck the pilot in the chest.
There were no injuries reported.
Turkish Airlines flight TK-875 had to return and make an emergency landing at Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport, Iran, on October 16th.
The Airbus A330-300 plane took off for Istanbul, Turkey, but had to turn back after the crew needed to shut down one of the engines.
The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
Air Arabia flight ABY-501 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Dabolim International Airport, Goa, India, on August 5.
The pilot requested an emergency landing due to a kidney patient aboard who needed immediate medical attention. The plane was heading from Sharjah, UAE, to Colombo, Sri Lanka at the time.
The plane, carrying 177 people, landed safely.
The patient was immediately transported to hospital.

Why: The chopper crashed in the San Jeronimo mountains. No one aboard was seriously injured. The team had been deployed to support a fight against FARC, a group of drug traffickers.
The chopper had just refueled and caught a crosswind. There was minor damage that is reparable.
Japan Airlines flight JL-632 made an emergency landing in Kumamoto, Japan, on May 24th.
The Boeing 767-300 plane took off for Tokyo, Japan, but had to return shortly afterwards due to an engine issue.
The plane landed safely. All two hundred and nine passengers and eight crew members remained unharmed.
Japan’s Ministry of Transport reported that metallic pieces from the left-hand engine were found at various locations on the ground below the flight path.
While on it’s third run from Helispot 44, at an elevation 5,935 feet, to Helispot 36, at an elevation of 2,516 feet, ferrying firefighters from a remote mountain site in the Shasta-Trinity forest, the Sikorsky S-61N helicopter crashed killing 9.
Fortunately, the voice-data recorder was determined to be intact despite fire damage. The investigation so far has found that the chopper’s main rotor lost power during takeoff. After the rotor malfunction, witnesses say the helicopter struck trees and slammed into the hillside. Four of the thirteen passengers–three fire fighters and the co-pilot–survived. The co-pilot remains hospitalized.
PenAir flight KS-2921 had to make an emergency landing in Klamath Falls, Oregon, on December 9th.
The plane flying from Portland, Oregon, was descending toward Klamath Falls when the crew declared an emergency due to a cargo smoke indication.
The plane landed uneventfully. All 20 people aboard remained safe.
