What: American Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-83 en route from Dallas/Ft Worth to Seattle
Where: Boise
When: Jan 28, 2012
Who: 141 aboard
Why: The American Airlines jet was en route when the left engine began running hot. Pilots shut down the engine.

A replacement MD-80 was sent with parts and mechanics aboard to repair the stranded aircraft and assist the passengers.

Pilots diverted to Boise and made a safe landing.

What: Travel Service Boeing 737-800 en route from Sharm el Sheikh Egypt to Prague
Where: Cairo
When: May 17th 2010
Who: 160 passengers
Why: While en route, the flight crew found indication of a wheel well fire and diverted to Prague. The flight landed safely, and the indication proved to be groundless, causing only a minor delay at the airport.

Small Plane Crashed in Orleans County, New York

A small plane crashed in a wooded area in Gaines, Orleans County, New York, on August 23rd.

The plane had just taken off from Gaines Valley Aviation Airport when it experienced a mechanical problem and went down.

The pilot, Earl Luce Jr., 64, of Brockport, was the only one aboard. He remained uninjured.

2 Killed after Helicopter Crashed in Salt Lake City

A small helicopter crashed into a vacant industrial building north of Salt Lake City, Utah, at around 2 p.m. on December 2.

The helicopter struck the roof of a two-story building and bursted into flames, with 2 occupants trapped inside.

Police Chief Craig Black confirmed that both people aboard the helicopter were pronounced dead at the spot. No one on the ground was injured.

The FAA is looking into the cause of crash.

Delta Airlines Flight Diverts to JFK Airport

Delta Airlines flight DL-981 had to divert and make an emergency landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, on August 22nd.

The Airbus A321-200 plane heading from Boston, Massachusetts, to Atlanta, Georgia, was diverted after the crew reported fumes on-board.

The plane landed safely. All one hundred and fifty-eight people aboard remained unharmed.

Congonhas Radio Interference

What: TAM Linhas Aereas Airbus A320-200 en route from Victoria to Sao Paulo Congonhas
Where: Campinas
When: May 27th 2009
Who: 100 passengers
Why: On approach to Congonhas, the plane’s communication with air traffic control was interrupted. Because of the interference, the plane diverted to Campinas where it made a safe landing.

Brazil has a history of problems with reception in areas of the Amazon; but in this case, in Sao Paulo, the radio problems caused several flights to be diverted.

Delta Airlines Plane Safely Lands in Salt Lake City after Bird Strikes

250px-Delta_logo.svgDelta Airlines flight DL-2229 safely landed in Salt Lake City, Utah, after bird strikes on October 16th.

The plane flying from Seattle, Washington, was on final approach when it was hit by several birds.

The plane continued for a safe landing. Everyone aboard remained safe.
