    Airbus Engine Pulled from Hudson

    Reuters provides a video of the Airbus 320’s submerged left engine being pulled from the Hudson river.

    The Airbus 320A jet has been moved from Battery Park City to Weeks Marina in Jersey City.

    The flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder have been recovered and the contents are being studied to determine details about what caused Flight 1549’s two engines to quit.

    Bomb Hoax Forces Qatar Airways Passenger jet to Make Emergency Landing

    QatarThe Qatar Airways flight QR23 made an emergency landing at Manchester airport at about 1 p.m. on August 5, on suspicion of a possible explosive device on board.

    The flight was en route from Doha to Manchester when the crew received a threat regarding a possible device on the Airbus A330. Royal Air Force fighter Typhoon jet aircrafts were then sent to escort the plane which was carrying 269 passengers and 13 crew members at the time.

    Chief Supt John O’Hare said: “An incoming plane has been escorted into the airport by the Royal Air Force, as a result of information received by the pilot about a possible device on board….We don’t know how genuine this threat is but it is absolutely vital we deal with the situation as a full emergency.”

    The plane landed safely. The passengers were evacuated and the plane was thoroughly searched. However, no device was found.

    The British police arrested a 47 year old passenger on suspicion of making bomb hoax threat.

    Manchester’s runways remained closed for 25 minutes, and nine inbound flights were diverted to other airports.

    Allegiant Plane Diverts to Florida due to Odor in Cabin

    AllegiantAllegiant flight G4-749 had to divert and make a precautionary landing at Jacksonville International Airport, Jacksonville, Florida, on July 6th.

    The McDonnell Douglas MD-83 was en-route from South Bend, Indiana, to Orlando, Florida, when the crew reported odor in the cabin, prompting the plane to divert.

    The plane landed safely. All 172 people aboard remained unharmed.

    The passengers were accommodated in a replacement plane.

    Hot Phone on Shanghai Flight

    What: Air China Airbus A330-300 en route from Beijing to Shanghai
    Where: Shanghai
    When: May 25th 2011
    Who: passenger
    Why: While en route, passengers smelled smoke in the cabin. The source was pinned down to an overhood bin, and turned out to be a passenger’s camera battery which caught on fire. The flames were between seven and eight inches.

    The battery was isolated and the fire extinguished in the lavatory.

    Miami-Bound AA Flight Diverts to JFK Airport

    American AirlinesAmerican Airlines flight AA-1696 made an emergency landing at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, on April 13.

    The Boeing 737-800 departed LaGuardia Airport at around about 2:15 p.m. but had to divert to JFK shortly afterwards after a bird flew into its left engine. The flight was en-route to Miami, Florida at the time.

    The plane landed safely and none of the 152 people aboard was harmed.

    The airline arranged an alternate plane for the passengers.

    Cathay Pacific Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Hong Kong

    Cathay Pacific flight CX-913 had to return and make an emergency landing in Hong Kong, China, on February 1st.

    The Airbus A330-300 plane took off for Manila, Philippines, but had to return shortly afterwards due to an engine problem.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All two hundred and seventy-one people aboard remained unharmed.
