    PIA Flight Makes Safe Landing After Bird Strike

    Pakistan International Airlines flight PK-719 made a safe landing following a bird strike in Milan, Italy, on January 28th.

    The Boeing 777-300 plane flying from Lahore, Pakistan, was on approach to Milan–Malpensa Airport when a bird hit it.

    The plane continued for a safe landing. There were 125 passengers aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.

    Delta Radio Obstructs Flight

    What: Delta Airlines Boeing 757-200 en route from Orlando to Atlanta
    Where: Orlando
    When: Jun 21st 2010
    Why: After takeoff, the Boeing lost radio contact briefly. Although they were able to reestablish contact, they returned to the airport (and made a safe landing) in order to have the radio examined and possibly replaced.

    PIA Plane Diverts to Ireland due to Smoke in Cockpit

    piaPakistan International Airlines flight 711 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Shannon Airport, Shannon, County Clare, Ireland, on April 23rd.

    The Boeing 777-200, flying from Manchester, England, to New York, was mid-air above Northern Ireland when it was diverted in emergency due to smoke in the cockpit.

    The plane landed uneventfully.

    All passengers and crew members onboard remained unharmed.

    Cargo Plane with Engine Shut Down Diverts to Shannon’s Long Runway

    What: Polet Aviakompania Antonov AN-124-100 en route from Goose Bay, Newfoundland, Canada to Frankfurt-Hahn Germany
    Where: North Atlantic
    When: August 14, 2010
    Who: 6 member crew
    Why: 1,000km northwest of Ireland, the Antonov (world’s largest serially built cargo aircraft) developed oil pressure problems in one engine and had to shut it down. The pilots diverted to Shannon which took two hours to reach, and they made a safe landing on a 3.2km runway. No injuries reported.

    Cathay Pacific Plane Returns to Hong Kong

    Cathay PacificCathay Pacific flight CX-92 had to make an emergency landing in Hong Kong, China, on April 6th.

    The plane took off for Anchorage, Alaska, but had to return shortly afterwards due to a low oil pressure indication in one of the engines.

    The plane landed uneventfully. No injuries were reported.

    The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.

    Air France Bomb Threat on Rio/Paris Flight

    What: Air France Boeing 747-400 en route from Rio de Janeiro to Paris
    Where: Atlantic
    When: July 10, 2010
    Who: 405 passengers and 18 crew
    Why: While en route, the crew was radioed that a woman had called Galeao Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport with information about a bomb aboard the flight. The flight diverted to Recife Brazil and made an emergency landing. Passengers immediately disembarked and were searched. The plane and baggage were inspected for bombs and explosives. Nothing was found.

    The airline reports that they will provide hotel accommodations for passengers. When (if) the plane is cleared, it will be allowed to continue.

    The Air France Flight 447 designation has been suspended since the Air France Airbus crashed on June 1 2009. This flight was designated AF 443.
