A Swiss European Airlines flight LX-487 had to make an emergency landing at London Stansted Airport, after one of its engines caught fire.
The plane was en route from London City to Basel on the night of Sunday April 27. During the initial climb, its right hand engine caught fire, after which the crew decided to halt the climb at the altitude of 5000 feet and shut down the engine. The plane was then diverted to the Stansted Airport, where it made an uneventful emergency landing, around 30 minutes after it took off.
All 82 passengers and 4 crew members exited safely. The flight was cancelled and the passengers were accommodated in another flight from London’s Heathrow Airport.
