    Bomb Hoax Forces Qatar Airways Passenger jet to Make Emergency Landing

    QatarThe Qatar Airways flight QR23 made an emergency landing at Manchester airport at about 1 p.m. on August 5, on suspicion of a possible explosive device on board.

    The flight was en route from Doha to Manchester when the crew received a threat regarding a possible device on the Airbus A330. Royal Air Force fighter Typhoon jet aircrafts were then sent to escort the plane which was carrying 269 passengers and 13 crew members at the time.

    Chief Supt John O’Hare said: “An incoming plane has been escorted into the airport by the Royal Air Force, as a result of information received by the pilot about a possible device on board….We don’t know how genuine this threat is but it is absolutely vital we deal with the situation as a full emergency.”

    The plane landed safely. The passengers were evacuated and the plane was thoroughly searched. However, no device was found.

    The British police arrested a 47 year old passenger on suspicion of making bomb hoax threat.

    Manchester’s runways remained closed for 25 minutes, and nine inbound flights were diverted to other airports.

    Why: On takeoff, after the plane blew a tire, it circled the airport and burned off fuel, then landed safely at 3:20 on the remaining tire. An emergency crew was on standby.

    Passenger Decides to Open Exit Door Mid-Air: Southwest Airlines Flight 722 Makes Emergency Landing at Nebraska

    UntitledJoshua Carl Lee Suggs, 23, a man from Sacramento, tried to open the rear exit door of the Southwest Airlines airplane flying from Chicago’s Midway Airport to Sacramento on April 13. The captain made an emergency landing in Omaha, Nebraska.

    Airport police arrested and escorted Suggs after landing. Federal officials said he could face charges of interference with flight crew members and attendants. This is punishable by up to 20 years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, or both. He will be presented in Omaha court on April 16.

    The flight 722 carrying 134 passengers and 5 crew members arrived in Sacramento two hours behind the schedule after removing the unruly passenger at Nebraska.

    The other passengers reported that Suggs was acting strangely even before he tried to open the door and jump out of the plane. He emerged soaking wet from the bathroom of the plane at one point. He appeared to be under the influence of drugs or psychotic. He was physically overpowered by other male passengers of the plane on the request of the crew members.

    Onur Air Plane makes Safe Landing in Turkey after Loss in Cabin Pressure

    OnurairOnur Air flight 8Q-814 made a safe landing at Antalya Airport, Antalya, Turkey, on May 28th.

    The Airbus A333-300, flying from Munich, Germany, was mid-air above Serbia when it lost its cabin pressure, prompting the crew to initiate an emergency descent before regaining control of the cabin pressure.

    The plane landed successfully.

    All people onboard remained unharmed.

    Azores Airlines Plane Returns to Portugal after Bird Strike

    Azores AirlinesAzores Airlines flight S4-134 had to return and make a safe emergency landing at Lajes Field, Lajes Air Base, Portugal, on July 15th.

    The Airbus A320-200 en-route to Lisbon, Portugal had just departed Lajes’s runway when the crew reported a bird strike resulting in engine failure.

    The plane landed safely. All 109 people onboard remained unharmed.

    The flight was cancelled.

    All Nippon Airways Flight Returns to Manila due to Smoke in Cockpit

    All Nippon AirwaysAll Nippon Airways flight NH950 had to return and make an emergency landing at Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila, Philippines, at around 10:19 a.m. on November 21.

    The incident happened after the pilot reported smoke coming out of the Boeing B767’s cockpit. The flight was heading to Narita, Japan at the time.

    The plane landed uneventfully and none of the 174 passengers and 10 crew members aboard was harmed.

    The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines is investigating.
