    Delta Airlines Flight Diverts to Boston due to Mechanical Issue

    Delta Airlines flight 106 made an emergency landing in Boston, Massachusetts, on November 2nd.

    The plane heading from John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, to Frankfurt, Germany, was diverted due to a mechanical issue.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    IndiGo Airlines Flight Returns to Raipur After Bird Strike

    IndiGo Airlines flight 6E-827 returned to Raipur, India, on September 9th.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane took off for Hyderabad, India, but had to turn back due to a bird strike.

    The plane landed back safely. There were one hundred and seventy people aboard at the time; all of them remained unharmed.

    American Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Tucson

    American Airlines flight AA-2047 had to return and make an emergency landing in Tucson, Arizona, on June 24th.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane took off for Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, Texas, but had to turn back after the crew reported hearing a loud bang.

    The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    According to the FAA, the aircraft suffered a bird strike.

    Smoking Phone Diverts International Flight

    What: American Airlines Boeing 767-300 flight AA199 en route from Milan to New York
    Where: Shannon
    When: Sept 13 2010
    Who: 167 passengers
    Why: While the plane was en route, a passenger was charging his cell phone, which started overheating, which set off the fire alarm in the lavatory. The flight diverted to Shannon, where it made a safe landing.

    Fire crews at Shannon were on standby during the emergency landing. Airport aircraft maintenance company engineers examined the plane and discovered the melted phone.

    Lufthansa Emergency Landing in India

    What: Lufthansa en route from Frankfurt to Singapore (Frankfurt-Bangkok?)
    Where: Kolkata
    When: Jan 29, 2011, 11:25
    Who: 300 passengers, 1 fatality: passenger “Robert”
    Why: While en route, the 75 year old passenger identified as “Robert” (who was coming from Belgium accompanied by his wife) had medical complications. The flight diverted to Kolkata. The director of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport made the public announcement that the passenger was dead on landing. The body was removed from the plane, and the flight continued at 3:25.

    What: United Airlines Boeing 767 en route from Chantilly Virginia to Ghana
    Where: en route
    When: May 29 , 2011
    Who: 144 passengers
    Why: After passenger one reclined his seat into passenger two’s lap, passenger two objected
    and slapped passenger one in the head. Apparently passenger one retaliated. This escalated into a fight, which had to be broken up by passenger 3 and a flight attendant.

    The fight that erupted between passengers resulted in a fighter escort from Andrews Air Force Base being sent in to shadow the flight on its return/diversion to Washington.

    No one was arrested and no charges were filed, but police did meet the UA flight on its arrival. The flight was delayed for eighteen hours.
