    Blue Islands Jet Hit by Lightning; Diverted to London Southend Airport

    Blue IslandsBlue Islands flight SI718 had to divert and make an emergency landing at London Southend Airport in Essex, United Kingdom, at around 6:37 p.m. on January 13.

    The flight, heading from Jersey to London City, was diverted after it was struck by lightning.

    The ATR42 aircraft, carrying 30 passengers, landed uneventfully. None of the passengers and crew members was hurt.

    Airline authorities said the aircraft was taken for inspection while the return flight to Jersey was cancelled.

    American Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Arkansas

    American Airlines flight AA-1129 had to make an emergency landing in Little Rock, Arkansas, on December 15th.

    The McDonnell Douglas MD-82 plane was flying from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, Texas, to Indianapolis, Indiana, when a passenger’s e-cigarette overheated and started emitting smoke.

    The crew diverted the plane to Little Rock where it landed safely.

    All 137 people aboard remained unharmed.

    Where: Shamshabad International Airport
    When: fifteen minutes after takeoff at 1:55 pm. Thursday May 7
    Who: 135 passengers including the Minister for Endowments J Ratnakar Rao
    Why: The plane returned to the airport when the pilot had technical difficulties.

    When: Aug 7th 2010
    Who: 400 passengers
    Why: After landing in heavy rain, the plane was in the process of taxiing to the gate when the crew was informed that the tires had blown on landing. Passengers disembarked via mobile stairs directly on to the tarmac and were provided transport to the gate.

    Pilot Injured after Ultralight Plane Makes Emergency Landing in British Columbia

    An Amphibian Ultralight plane had to make an emergency landing at Highway 91 in Delta, British Columbia, Canada, on April 22.

    The plane was flying from King George Airpark when the pilot noticed that it had lost power and decided to make an emergency landing.

    The 49-year-old pilot sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was shifted to hospital.

    The highway was reopened for traffic some two hours after the incident.

    AA Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Mississippi

    American EagleAn American Airlines flight made an emergency landing in Meridian, Mississippi, on December 5.

    The plane, operated by ExpressJet, was heading from Dallas, Texas, to Columbia Metropolitan Airport, South Carolina, when the crew reported a crack in the windshield and requested an emergency landing.

    The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unhurt.

    The airline arranged another aircraft for the passengers.
